I recieved my motor today. Here's some pics. The mine's ECU almost makes me believe that this might be a standard 185 motor with the W/A IC swapped over. This is supported by the fact that I asked for the AFM and he sent me a standard 185 one. Is there any other way to check to verify that this is an RC motor? Thanks. (Deph in particular biggrin.gif)

post up the part #, it should be listed on it. One of us will verify it.

It has a timing belt cooler which is an RC part. Thats funny they gave you the 185 AFM. Maybe thats the reason for the upgraded ECU, to make up for the stock AFM.
I'd give that motor a complete rebuild.

The ECU part number 89661-2B280(I have two of these don't know if its RC or not)

i use to have mines ecu too. mines put a chip in ecu and eliminates speed limiter and converts car to 100 octane fuel. probaply you have a rc ecu with mines chip which means you are so lucky wink.gif

I wish I could check the ECU part number but Mine's seems to have taken the identification off of it. I know for sure the AFM is a regular 185... the part number is the same as my other 3s. Any other way to verify? Omega are those part numbers all for RC components or are the harness and ignitor part numbers the same as a regular 185?

here is my old ecu and part numbers on it. mines does not take off numbers on it. only place guaranty plaque and safety stickers side

Best thing I could suggest is go on to www.gt4oc.net and ask on there, we have lots of 185 RC/CS owners who should be able to tell you straight away or at least tell you what to look for. A few words of advice, get a metal head gasket put on ASAP as those are the weak point on the 185 lumps, luckily the 205 has one as standard.

Thanks for the head gasket advice 94wrc. I'll definately do that. The only problem is gt4oc.net has a charge for access to their forums. I would do it but I can't justify any expenses at this moment. Would it be possible for you to make a quick run-through on the forums over there and see if you come across anything?

I wonder why the sticker was taken off of the ECU... hmm... I'm gonna call the importers right now.

Open up the ECU and look at the pinout stamped on the board. The existance of an INT pin should tell you if the ECU is an RC.

Did you get the WA intercooler ECU with the swap?

Those are the part numbers for the RC....Its fits on to my motor perfectly. The harness also has the WTA harness plug on it. Don't know about the ignitor. Does your AFM have 7 pins or 5 pins? If 5 pins then you have RC AFM.

Opened up the ECU only to find this... no pinout diagram. The harness did have the plug for the intercooler... however the ecu plug has been chopped. I called them and expressed my disapproval. I have a feeling there is going to be a major wiring issue... even though I already have a working harness from my previous 3s.

Good news is: They told me to send back the AFM and they will send the correct one. Lets just hope they still have it.

P.S. To those wondering about my first 3s: Long story short I let my friend borrow it for a day and it came back in pieces... I hope you all learn from my mistake... It's like they killed my child.

You can definately tell if the AFM is an RC - its like 50% bigger in size. Wiring wise, it has one extra ground. The sensitivity of the meter is different from the standard 185 - if you put the RC AFM on a standard ECU you'll run really rich.

I've been searching for any sort of ecu pinout diagram for the rc... to no avail. So since it's not looking good in that department... is there any way to find out which pin goes to where? Or am I pretty much f'd?

you should be able to just plug that ecu into your old harness. the pinouts on the "rc" ecu are the same as a normal st185

That means I'm really f'd then... because this "mine's" ecu has completely different pin placements... not even close

Edit: What about the AFM wiring? Doesn't the RC AFM have more/less wires going to it? What are those extra wires doing?

RC ECU wiring is similar to the 92-93 standard ST185 wiring. The 90-91 harness is a bit different. You'll also have extra wires for the IC setup as compared to the standard 185 harness
The Mines ECU should have the same pinout as the RC, since they've basically remapped the stock ECU.

The RC AFM has one more wire compared to the standard 185 ECU. This is just another ground (dedicated to the temp sensor instead of sharing the ground wire between them).
