ever since my swap (5s to 5s) i have had a check engine light. it was only on sometimes before, but now it had been on for a solid 2 months now. now here is the problem... when i get it diagnosed, it says it is the cam positioning sensor. to my knowledge, and the knowledge of anyone else i have talked to, niether my old engine, nor the new engine have a cam positioning sensor. so my questions are if the car never had this part.. why the hell is the ecu looking for it, and how can i fix this problem?

I wonder if they mean crank position sensor. Do you know what the code is exactly or is a shop telling you?
Maybe this will help you: http://aarc.epnet.com/application/8959/895...8_MODELS.htm#T1 There is a camshaft sensor circuit malfunction but on the component location there isn't a cam sensor listed. Maybe if someone has a parts list handy they can find it? |

QUOTE(TrdKing @ May 2, 2006 - 6:35 PM) what motor and ecu are you using. (what cars) newer 5sfe camrys have a cam positioning sensor Heres the thing. I am using a 94 5sfe engine that i converted from federal to cali emissions( my old motor was cali) so of course i used me old coil, ignitor, distributor, exaust manifold, ECU and everything esle needed for the swap. It came out of a parts car parted out by Dustin (batman722) and Manny(presure2) so i know it was from a celica. but even if it was from a camry, why would the ecu be looking for it? -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far. nate you need to find out the code #. You can go to AutoZone and they will check the code for free. They will even look it up for you and give you the meaning of the code. From there we can diognos the problem and fix it.

Maybe if someone has a parts list handy they can find it? I know about the crank angle sensor, its not that. I actually had two different ppl diagnose it, one of which is the diagnostic manager at a local toyota dealership. Ive been tring to contact him but hes not returning my calls. but anyway, they both said "ok man its the cam positioning sensor, check that out" so im assuming that that is what it is saying -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far.
