well the post title pretty much sums it up. I would like to paint the airbag pannel on the passenger side but was scared to pull it off thinking the airbag might deploy.

Whoa! before you go yanking that **** off, disconnect you're battery, and wait like 5 mins. the bag shouldn't deploy, but there's a safety relay that takes several mins. to shut down, then go pulling a jerking all you want, found the info trying to change out steering wheels, and getting around the driver's bag, in case your wondering!

Wait, so you store stuff in the air bag compartment? If so, that could easily kill your passenger if you got in even a minor fenderbender.

to discharge the air bags you have to disconnect the battery for not less than 90 seconds. After that you can do whatever you want with them. If you want to take the whole air bag out, you going to have to take the whole dash board off. I've dane it on my car.
good luck.

that's not the panel, it's the airbag. just be aware. and also, it's vinyl, not plastic, so if you paint it, use vinyl dye otherwise it will look like crap.

Ok heres the deal when i got my body kit put on the front sensor for the air bags was removed and the unit did not all of a sudden shoot out or the light stay on all the time. So i removed the brain for the air bags and left the harness for now as far as the passenger air bag i completely removed it from the car (about 10#'s lighter) and i have no problems with the drivers side either.

I did however keep the cover for the passenger side and i remounted the cover itself and mounted a 7.2 lcd on the bottom of it and its a great spot for a tv.
