if the buyer really did find all of that on the computer, than i think that it's too bad for the seller... But if he is fabricating that information, that is very bad... libel lawsuit...

Probably so, I don't know everything, but I think it takes like 7 reformats to completely get rid of files. or so I hear

Probably so, I don't know everything, but I think it takes like 7 reformats to completely get rid of files. or so I hear


Usually reformatting, regardless of how many times you do it, won't erase the data. It sets up tags in the directory that all the data can be over written, but is not. To really delete, a program which "zeros" a drive is needed, which instead of simply setting all the data as overwrittable, is actually sets all the data to 0's (or 01010101..., or 111111...). Thats the only way to make sure things aren't coming back.
