i am trying desparately for help

being a girl who knows nothing about cars i have come here for help from you guys please.

i have a celica silver in colour
the log book shows toyota celica st coupe
date of registration 01/08/1996
petrol
private light goods
cylinder 1762cc
p registration

i have found another mot test certificate showing
chassis number

jt164at2000071724

the engine has blown in my car. The garage has said the car was a limited addition and they have tried 3 separate engines in it 7asfe and none of them fit. they say there is a problem with the mounts or something. i am confused !!

it is sitting at the back of the garage and cannot be used for the last 8 weeks.

is there any other engine i can try to get hold of to put in it. can we rebuild another engine please help anyone
do you think i could sell it for spares??

what is best.

the rest of the car is fine just the fact it doesnt have an engine

look forward to your replies and i can take them to the lads at the garage to make sense of them

thanks

kerry x

If only 1762cc, then it should be a ST and with 7AFE, even though it's a limited edition. Do u think 7AFE engine will fit?

They don't know what they're talking about...

7AFE is 7AFE... special editions merely refer to additional options, such as ABS brakes, or whatever. The 7AFE is a common engine (at least here in the states) and shouldn't be a problem finding... nor should it be too costly. The actual mechanical engine is the same... might be VERY slight variations with the intake manifold and such, but the actual longblock is the exact same thing.

Yep, assuming its not had an engine upgrade/swap in the past it will defo be a 7AFE.
The garage either haven't even tried to find an engine or are getting the wrong type.
If its from another 1.8 7AFE celica from around '95 to '98 it should fit fine.. ST or special edition SR no difference.
Maybe they are trying the gen 7 '99 onwards 1.8 engine which is totally different rolleyes.gif or another 1.8 engine from another Toyota altogether.
