i told my step-dad about dropping in a 3sgte engine into my coupe. his response was to just get a brand new car. i've been thinking about it and its been leaning to getting a new car. its so hard to get parts for our celi's and the coupe makes it even worst. and theres not enough power for me to feel happy about. just wanted to share my thoughts with you and i'd like to hear from you. what would you do????

If you want chicks to like your car, stick with a celica. They think they are sexy. If you want power, buy a 67 Camero, there probably the cheapest and easiest car to get power with. If you've got an ST, I can see how you might want more power. THe GT has enough for me, it would be nice to have more, but its enough to have fun with. I kinda feel that its pretty rare that I floor mine anyway, so i'm just happy with what I've got. Putting a turbo in is a cheaper way to add speed, its less of a hassle than doing the gt-4 swap. Not as much power, but cheaper, quicker, and its what I'd do if I had the money.

you in Cali right? if so, forget about the engine swap cuz you won't be able to get it registered once dmv finds out about the swap. The 2nd Gen 3S-GTE's available for USDM are from MR2's which are older than the 6TH Gen (hence, you can't swap one legally in CA), the 3RD Gen 3S-GTE's (ST205 GT4) JDM's can't be swapped in either as it was not available here.. I say if you live in another state - definitely do the 3S-GTE swap Buy a GT4 front clip and have fun.. If you are in Cali and want to stay legal - sell it and get a different car (because the 7th gen is fugly). BUT for out of State Peeps - I say hell, DO the 3rd Gen 3S-GTE SWAP! A low mileage 3S-GTE (from JDM) installed + new vacuum tubes, belts, shocks, paint job should run around 5-7K or so.. Once you replace the engine, you'll probably have another 200K miles before it goes broke again (it's a toyota after all).. Best of all, it not only looks fast, but is indeed fast And besides - a new car altogether will cost you at least 19K + increased vehicle license fee's + higher insurance.. Oh yeah, and the Celica is one damned sexy car (and one can argue that it's interior is one of the best around).. G This post has been edited by funks: Jun 20, 2003 - 5:04 PM |

yer probably not going to get alot out of a 94 celica, unless you have a rebuilt motor or VERY low miles unfortunatly, and with the "if you want chicks to like your car" comment, i have to agree, im getting a MR2 turbo, reguardless how much my girlfriend keeps saying how much she hates the car and she loves the celica... all i say is ill take you for a drive, if you dont like it then, you dont have to ride in it

Ah, didn't know they had a 94-95 MR2.. Nevertheless, one will "probably" have a hard time finding one - with low mileage at that I guess if you are able to snag a 94-95 3S-GTE from an MR2 and transplant all the emission stuff then you should be good to go. Or basically snag a higher mileage 94-95 MR2 3S-GTE then just rebuild it. Are you stating that one can use a 90-93 All-Track 3S-GTE and stick it into a '94 Celica and keept it legal in CA? If so, how (legally, not bribing peeps and all) considering it's older than the 6th Gen (94 -> 99).. As for the RX8 - why? Considering there's probably gonna be a flood of turbo's soon for the 350Z (rotary engines + turbos don't mix reliability wise). This post has been edited by funks: Jun 21, 2003 - 1:32 AM |

well i do love the celica and how i get attention from it. but the fact is that my step dad doesnt want me to drop in the 3sgte. i 've told him the potential of it and how much better it is. but he doesnt want me to race. well not illegally. and he doesnt want me to put in the money for it. he would rather have me get an already built car that has that power, or some what power like a 171 hp evo8. or the mazda rx8. but those cars will be found too often in the import scene. and 7th gen is not even on my mind. 350z is nice but i see alot now. and there is no originality with cars other than the rims or color. and i would keep my celi but i pay 200monthly on it and i cant afford to pay for two cars. so i have to trade it in.

Well, I get to have is another car 'cause my sister is getting her license soon. So the celi would probably go to her. I always thought about selling it 'cause its an ST and i can't do an 3sgte engine swap in cali with all the smog laws. It looks good and i'll last you forever

If I could do it over again, I wouldn't have done the swap...I would have just got a new Celica GT or GTS. Just my .02...I'm looking into getting another bike though instead of the car.

geezz! now i feel such an idiot posting this topic in te first place.
I LOVE MY CAR!!!! I LOVE THE 6TH GEN. CELICA! I just spent a day driving it around and it was GREAT! people really think i'm a racer when i get behind the wheel. my co workers always tell me good luck at the races. i dont even go. and for some reason there was a lot more girls giving me attention when i was driving. hahaha. its funny how a little drive with the celica will change your mind. i think i'll just do a 3sge swap for the power. its not gonna be 225hp, but it will be a better motor than the 7afe Thanks for those who gave me their opition! 6G Celica owners are the greatest! why would anyone want a 7GC? damn, it's fugyly, and most of all, it's engine has very little torque.. Do you peeps like downshifting in order to pass somebody up on the freeway? that's ridiculous.. The 3S-GTE has enough torque to wrack your brains out (and yes, you most likely won't have to down shift in order to get to the 7gc's power range).. |

STick to people with a Nissan 300ZX, 90 and up of coarse. Unless you want a classic one, those are cheap as hell. You can get one(300zx) that needs some body work for like 3000, not bad since you can upgrade the turbos and make like 450 hp with a pretty much stock setup Then you can keep you Celica and have lots of fun.

Maybe from a '94 MR2 - the '95 MR2 can't be used as they never released it in California (although they had 95 MR2's in other states).. |
