Your accessories pulley turns all your accessories. A/C, Powersteering, and alternator. The underdrive pulley, is a smaller, lighter accessories pulley so the engine has to work less hard to turn the pulley. Thus more power gets to your wheels.
To get it on, you need to jack up your car, and put it into gear. If you have an auto this is much more difficult Take off your front right tire and the splash guard, take off the bolt on your original acessories pulley using an impact wrench and some pb (do not even try it without these tools). Then take off your original pulley with a mallet or just your hands. Bolt on the new one and put on the belts at the same time. Torque that to some redicious torque found in the manual. To keep the pulley from turning when you are screwing it in if you have an auto, get one of those plumber rubber pipe holder things you see on TV. Just ask at your local hardware store for something like that. Have someone really strong hold it, while your torque. Then put everything back on. The alternator and the powersteering also can adjust to make it easier to put the belts on. Do yourself a favor, get the exact right belts (NOT alternates that those crappy auto stores try to sell you), and you probably won't have to adjust your alternator and powersteering. That hard to do also. |

I would definetly go ahead and get the pulley fitted.
A qualified mechanic should be able to get the job done without any problems I put this on my car and it did make a difference, not a huge difference, but it is definetly noticable.. but everything counts in the world of performance! I also noticed straight away that my fuel consumption dropped slightly. Hope this helps! |

Heh yea if you got the money go ahead an get a mechanic to do it. This was the most annoying mod ever.

I found that the headlights would dim a slight bit from time to time when accelerating.
Nothing really noticable or troublesome though. But I think that problem was only down to fact that the mechanic was messing around with my earthing point, When he pulled off the original pulley, it came off with a pop and sent him stubmling back on his ass. His wrist watch got caught on the earth wire and pulled it out from where it was supposed to be. Sure was funny though! |

Well, as a general rule with all mods, the faster your car goes the less reliable it becomes. Some will tell you that the acessories pulley is a harmonic balancer, and it has a rubber core designed to absorb the harmonic motion from the pistons. This however, is untrue the st204. It is most likely untrue for al 6th gens. The accessories pulley is one peice metal, and does not asorb harmonic shocks at all. Plus, everyone who has one is happy with them and has never experienced engine problems due to it. |
