QUOTE(Punisher @ Aug 25, 2006 - 10:33 PM) I laugh at this thread. No one has even brought up any ideas on WHY the 4th gen makes more power than the previous gens. Frankly to me it is very obvious. I also don't see where you guys are getting 260hp from.. that dyno showed 232... A 2nd gen with a FMIC can make near that power. Dyno was done @ 11 psi. Stock run @ 14 psi. The older ones had trouble cracking through the cylinder wall into the water jacket. +1. |

nah, i doubt i will be trying to get into the 700s thats rediculous im happy getting past most cars and evos my main concern is replacement parts that wear. i talked to a guy on mr2 and he just said i cant change cam shafts because of a notch on the end. and then i asked him what other parts are interchangeable and he said "some are and some arent"

what kind of shape is this motor in, if its only 300buck more then an st185. normally these sell for a lot more then a 185, so there must be a catch somwhere. im kind of surprised that your buying a motor without ever seeing pics or compression test results from it.

yeah, tweak said he would take a look at it. if somethings wrong with it for that price, i want it returned, but i remember tweak saying it seemed okay. they havent recieved it yet, it should be another couple of days.

it hasnt gotten to tweak's yet in another day or so and its an engine set which is why it was only a bit more expensive than the st185 clip. still havent found out exactly what is exchangeable on it the guy from mr2oc site hasnt hit me back. have been trying to research it but nothing. and i aggree lagos, if its not somethign that i approve of, or i smell a rat, i will have to send it back not saying that tweak would do that but business is business...

Personally I wouldn't do it. Most I would go for is ST205... but you are the one paying for all that unknown wiring to get done... I know that ignition parts and even the map sensor for the ST205 can be sourced in the USA off of other USDM toyota's.. and I believe it is phattyduck on this forum who knows what is up with that situation.. IIRC.

I've put an ST205 motor in my Camry, but that's not too relevant to this conversation. Most USDM 3s-gte maintenance parts work on the 3rd gen (and I'd assume '4th' gen). Its other replacement parts that get hard to find. Champion Toyota can get 3rd gen parts easy, but the 4th gen path doesn't seem to be often travelled. I got all the correct stock parts for my car and all my sensors worked, so I haven't had to do any troubleshooting yet...Good luck with the motor! -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon

well they said that the 4th gen 3sge has direct ignition
and that the "4th gen 3sgte" is more of a 3rd gen V2 i mean you can call it version watever but they only noted the change of the turbo/exhaust manifold is one piece....they never even mentioned it had a direct ignition system like the "4th gen 3sge" for all easy sake its still a 4th generation 3sgte there are significant obvious changes..ie ignition, turbo, intake manifold ect. i think there probably more similarities between a 4th gen 3sge and a 4th gen 3sgte then there is the 4th gen 3sgte and the 3rd This post has been edited by playr158: Aug 30, 2006 - 9:59 AM |

maintenance wise like i've mentioned before
coilpacks are expensive and take awhile to get but they are a good piece overall (they can break easily so becarefull with them) belts and hoses shouldn't be an issue really cause you can always find universal belts and hoses of the correct size timing belt might be the same that would be good ![]() |

Hi all, Just joining up and following the threads....i have a 2000 Caldina GT-T equipped with the ST-215....most parts (except the obvious, like the coils) are common between the ST-205 and ST-215....belts, gaskets should work on both...
I'm currently doing a little upgrading here and there, but haven't really encountered any hiccups except for the exhaust manifold which is GOING TO LEAK AT SOME POINT IN TIME ( it comes with 7 holes for bolting it to the head....the head itself has provision for 8 studs, but comes with seven...go figure...the upper hole for cylinder #1 has no stud to go over.....its just...there..) Aside from this, the engine/car performs flawlessly....Currently at 330whp / 310lb./ft. |
