I'm not sure if i'm going to keep my 6th gen or sell it but I am going to buy a 7th gen. The one i'm looking at is carbon blue (looks black). Its a 2001 GTS auto/manual. Sorry, what ever you say im not going to get a manual. leather-sunroof-side bags-alloys-60k mi. I have it on hold right now. Price is 12399 from dealership. The 6th gen I have needs work and is too old and weak. May keep it around for the hell of it or may post it to sell on here. Any comments? What do you think of carbon blue/near black color? Any suggestions on what to mod?

good luck keeping the 2zzge/auto trans in lift smile.gif ive heard its really tricky. im sure you'll like the car alot tho.

1st thing i'd suggest is suspension. stock is good, but theres better out there to be had. some tint would look nice too.

Yeah, don't pay attention to that. The TRD action package looks really nice (not sure of the cost) or the kit that zach posted. A trd wing on a stock body is going to look weird (kind of like a stock 6gc with gt4 blocks).

Nice!

6th + 7th = AWESOME!

One thing I need to add is that you really HAVE to take good care of your lights on the 7th gen, they get YELLOW very easily... Use PlastX to clean your front lights regularly.

Ok I got her, she's mine! I now have two registered insured celicas. This is what i'm going to do:

re-tint- dark tint
add alarm / remote lock system
add s2000 antenna
euro side marker lights
LED replacement lights
darken the tails

Then possibly.....
remove stock spoiler (wing-less)
TRD body kit
carbon fiber hood

I'm not lowering it or getting rims for it, cuz I live in florida and stock alloy are perfect cond w/ nicer tires than my yokomo-whatevers on my 6th gen.

that it for now. Damn she's fast!

Congrats

I was looking at getting a 2001 Celica GT a couple months ago. Dealership wanted $10,999 CAD for it. Fully loaded blah blah.

Anyway, he didnt take me seriously because I was 19, wouldnt let me actually take it for a drive, wouldnt let me even inside of it. He sold it on me, after I was harassing him for a week about it.

nice pickup!! my girlfriend just traded in her 00 GTS 6-speed for a 07 tC, her GTS was a great car but it was starting to feel a little shaky and the tC was actually cheaper per month. the only thing that sucks about the GTS is you have to use premium gas... damn high compression motors. id suggest just doing a minor suspension drop with some eibach springs, a nice exhaust (TRD, nothing too attention getting), an injen intake, and a lip kit. spoilerless on those cars is really hot. have fun!

if you aren't getting a manual, then you shouldn't bother getting a GT-S.

lift occurs at a certain rev point, an automatic won't be able to keep the rev's high enough to stay in lift through the gears, so it will be a small difference between yours and a manual GT.

i've done my homework on this, check out newcelica.org and you'll realize what a difference having a 6 speed means with the GT-S. not trying to knock your purchase, but you are short changing yourself if you go with the automatic. the beauty of VVTL-i is being able to stay in lift after shifts, and downshifting in to lift to take off.

yeah, i want you to have the most amount of fun possible with the car, trust me, i'm not trying to dissuade you from buying it.

i really want a 7th gen too. the *whole* selling point of the GT-S is that after about 5k rpm or so, it changes the cam profile slightly, and the engine winds up faster to redline. that's how it makes the extra 50hp or so. it's like the toyota version of v-tec from honda.

when you get it, make sure they check the 'lift bolts' for wear & tear, if they're broken or bent you won't be hitting lift.

sadly i know more about the 2000+ celica's than i do about the 6th gens, and i dont even own one tongue.gif

good luck with the car though, it's nice.

I agree with these other people.... buying an auto GT-S is like throwing your money away. Why pay for all that extra technology and power when the transmission can't even access it?

well, i think arizona doesn't know how to drive a stick...

i could understand why people wouldn't want to buy a nice vehicle like that if they didn't know how to drive stick, but, he(she?) would have much more fun with the 6 speed.

i've heard that the 6 speed GT-S's aren't the easiest thing to learn on. however, once you get past that learning curve, it would be a much more enjoyable experience in comparison to the auto.

it's really up to preference at this point, i say go for the 6 speed, but if arizona chooses to go for the auto, it's still a fun car either way.

6 speed GT-S's with low mileage are extremely rare to find anyway, i've looked all over illinois/surrounding states and i've only maybe found a handful in a few years. the 2000 models are the best to get, because in 2001+ they lowered the redline, and in 2003 they changed it to a drive by wire system.

Why did they lower the redline?

Dangerously high in the 2000 models?

yeah, pretty much. it's already a high compression motor to begin with.

another solution for red would be to buy a low priced GT with low mileage, and toss a blitz supercharger on it. tey make as much HP and more torque than the GT-S's do, and you can get a charger for about $3,000.
