I'd like to remove the "toyota" "celica" and "gt" emblems off the back, and just leave the middle 3-ring toyota emblem. from what I know (and I very well could be wrong) the middle emblem is the only on that would actually leave holes if removed, and the others are held on by some kind of double-sided tape? so how do I go about removing them?
I'd like to go for the shaved emblem look for my new hatch, but I want to practice with my old hatch right now so if I screw anything up it really doesn't matter. you can either just pull it off or slide something like a credit card behind the emblem
which will leave less of that sticky crap. Either method will work better if you use a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive foam tape stuff. with regards to the middle toyota emblem, the holes are not that big and if your car is dark theyre not too noticeable. you could always stick the emblem back on if you don't like it, or you could buy a gold emblem off ebay which i think look the nuts, i'm putting a gold one on mine soon. -------------------- imghttp://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n153/LI...KINGy2j/sig.jpg[/img]

use a jair dryer, heat up the emblem, which will loosen the adhesive under it. then use dental floss, or fishing wire, and start.....flossing it, or kinda sawing it, do it in a ncie slow steady motion. dont pop the emblem off, let it fall off.
when it falls off, then use some goo gone, and start rubbing it off. use a rag, or a sponge or something, or jsut use your thumb. and once all the goo is gone,m be sure to thourghly clean the surface. -------------------- KB |

the emblems come off pretty easy.. but that glue adhesive was a pain.. too me a long time to heat it up, rub it off and get it completely clean...
but it was worth it :-) -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

yea. the hardest part, is gettign the adhesive off of the car itself. just use alot of friction w/ your thumb and rub it really hard and its relativley simple, and just hope that the sun hasent fadded the paint to much around the emblem. that happened to my friend, and his looks terrible, you can still see the outline of "Prelude".....so there is a possibilty that it will look bad. but if done properly, it should be fine

Make sure the gold badges fit the rear as i bought a pair & the front was fine just a bit bigger but the larger badge wouldn't sit flush on the rear so i had to put the old one on & gonna spray it soon. -------------------- My Celica Is Now For Sale

use goo-gone or some adhesive remover spray to get rid of the adhesive... use a blow dryer to soften it up.
i'll check it fits later, thanks. are there any spray paints that give a shiny gold finish rather than a metallic finish? i have looked for some in the past but had no luck. -------------------- imghttp://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n153/LI...KINGy2j/sig.jpg[/img]

alright thanks guys! I'm gonna go try this in a minute. but yeah, after I get my new hatch and fenders and put them on, I'm getting the car repainted, so if the paint is darker under the emblems it won't really matter.
btw, gold emblems won't match the color scheme I'm going for. but I'm not going to tell you the color scheme I'm gonna do yet, it's a surprise This post has been edited by 6strngs: Sep 15, 2006 - 4:55 PM -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

Hey! got it all done! took about an hour and a half, but was pretty easy. if you get really close, you can see where the emblems were... but you can only really see if it you were looking for it and get real close. and, I did a little write-up on it for everyone else that may want to try this!
Tools needed: two rags, a hair dryer, some dental floss, and some goo gone(or similar) Time needed: about an hour and a half for all 3 (or 30 min. each) Step 1: Heat the emblem with the hair dryer about 2-3 mins, this should soften up the adhesive that holds the emblem on. Step 2: Get a piece of dental floss and, using an up and down flossing motion, work your way across the emblem until it falls off. don't pull it off after you get halfway. My floss shredded several times while trying to do this, so make sure you have plenty of floss on hand when you do this part. Step 3: Put a little goo gone on the rag and try to rub the adhesive off. Using your fingernail is great for scraping it off too. This will take a bit of time, and is the hardest part of this procedure, so be patient. Keep at it until all of the goo is gone. You can also re-heat the area occasionally to make it easier to remove. Step 4: Wet the second rag with water and clean the area once you're finished to be sure none of the goo gone is remaining that may eat through your paint. Now you're done and you can enjoy that nice clean shaved emblem look. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

I hope so. I've never seen the Goo-gone stuff. But I think I'm gonna go to the store in the morning and look for some. I've been wanting to take my emblems off for awhile, just haven't gotten around to finding out how, til now.

I think you should be able to find it in any hardware store. -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

Well I dragged my lazy ass to the store, and lo-and-behold, I found Goo-gone! Now I goptta get up in the morning and actually do something with the emblems. I'm taking off the "Toyota" and "Celica" emblems, leaving on the "GT" emblem. I have the cursive "Celica" emblem on order and i'm gonna put that where I took off the other ones. The toyota symbol is already off, but has the 2 holes, so eventually I'll need to get those filled.

Be careful, ive ruined a lot of things using that damn goof off. Its really strong, and will easily go through your paint, so be careful not to rub too hard, but maybe i just had a cheapo paint job that comes off easily, who knows.
