i just want to know if u swap a motor, do u have to tell insurance companies....do they check the id number on your engines.... do u get penalized if they found out that your engines not the same or your car isnt polution proof.....i want to know this cause i want to swap my motor but the sites that i ve been through, it seems like theres a big fee to swap a motor........so im just wondering whats the safest way to swap a motor into my celica....please all in details....

well your insurance will go up

they will probably have to figure out some custom policy or something

like maybe insure you for all trac rates or something

or you could not tell them but IF you get in a big accident then you wont be covered IF they look at your engine code

you can possibly tell them that your stock one fooked up and its just the head/or block from a 3s-gte

or tell them that its just a turbo kit

it voids insurance if they see you have a different engine, or hell, even a different color car then what you originally insured the car for.

depends on the insurance company. the color change won't matter, they would just adjust the coverage accordingly. as far as an engine swap, it depends on your inspection as to if it's even legal in the first place, then, after the swap, i believe some companies may swap the car over to a salvage title because of the swap, and the insurance would adjust accordingly. .

I'd really suggest asking yyour insurance before doing a swap,. If they say no, then look for other companies (i'm sure someone will cover you). Its best to have you a$$ covered before your drop lots of dough on an engine and not be able to have it covered by insurance. better to be safe than sorry

I've yet to have an insurance company inspect my car, and when other members of my family claimed damages on various cars, they didn't even send a rep. They tell you to bring it to one of their approved garages and they send them a quote.

I've been looking for what I heard someone call a "full value" insurance policy on their mr2 once, that handled all the mods and cost of the car in full if something happened to it. Must be expensive as hell but does anyone know who offers something like this?

to tell the insurance that u swapped ur engine is almost like telling a cop that...

Speaking from experience id let them know everything, if the companies worth paying for they wont be too stoopid about things.
In the Uk we have specialist insurance companies that will deal with this sort of thing specifically, im sure youd have them in the states.
My advice would be to ask your current insurers how it will affect things, if they want to empty youre wallet, put it on hold untill your renewal date then shop around.
Whatever you do, dont just keep it a secret, you wouldnt drive without any insurance and thats effectively what youd be doin.

I talked to my agent about doing the swap. She told me that as long as the parts I put in were "stock" toyota then no problem. She did not seem to care as to which car they came from as long as they were Toyota parts. I would then have to get the car appraised and the insurance would be based on the new value. If I was to install parts made by aftermarket companies, like burrien or RIPP, etc then my insurance would most likely be cancelled.

people get so worried about the insurance company, emissions, and cops finding out about your swap.

ive taken emissions i drove straight in they tested my gas cap. scan my inside door. then they put me up on a dyno and took my car to about 25 mph. before the dyno they wanted to plug somthing into my cig lighter but it dont work so they popped my hood and hooked it up to my battery. he didnt know anything was diff either did his boss who cam over and looked at my engine.

another time when i was being arrested for illegal racing, the cop was asking questions about my car and someone told him i had a new motor put in. the cop asks me why i did it and what for i told him i had high mileage and my old motor was going bad.

cops, emissions people, insurance companys are not certified toyota mechanics people. they have no ****ing clue whats going to be under the engine, most dont know what the hell a turbo is. for god sakes the guy who gave me my emission test, his first name was the same as his last name! how would he know im suppose to have a 5sfe?

um it was some wierd forgien name that i could never pronounce. actually it wasnt 100% the same it had an extra letter on his first name wait ill get my emission slip his names on it one sec............................

In my state, all emissions consist of is driving into a garage and they stick a pipe into your exhaust to measure your actual emissions, and then they take your VIN #, and check your lights / wipers. Then a brake check and your done. So will i pass the emissions part of my exam? From the sound of it, I will with no problem there. I'm not sure what i'm gonna do about insurance after i have the new engine in.... LoL. havent gotten that far yet i suppose...

*sigh* guess that's why i love Florida...NO EMISSIONS! I think atleast half of the import car community does not have any catalytic converters and the other half....NO PIPING AT ALL!
