It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. |

just so I am sure about this, this is what your engine has done to it (from your profile)
Heads 3 Angle Valve Job Oversized Valves Performance Cams Reground and still you got only 87-88 to the wheels ? and with Dry Shot Nitrous Kit (75 shot) you got 122-123 ? it all just seems low to me. -------------------- |

based on your dyno sheet, i wouldnt use the nitrous if i were you. your motor is VERY lean and wont last long.

this is a dumb question i know, but im just out to learn... what does a lean engine refer to? and what are you guys looking at to tell that?

QUOTE(JFrost9 @ Sep 27, 2006 - 12:26 AM) this is a dumb question i know, but im just out to learn... what does a lean engine refer to? and what are you guys looking at to tell that? Lean means the engine isn't getting enough fuel. Tyically when reffering to gasoline engines, a good clean burn is an airfuel mix of about 14.7:1. A number higher than that means the airfuel mixture is lean (has more air). A number lower means the mixture is rich (more fuel). Most engines run rich around 13 to 12... rarely leaning out more than 14.7... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Ok, i knew what lean meant but now im curious... why is too lean, bad. It would seem to me that a lean mixture would allow the gasoline to fully react, and having oxygen in excess, just blowing that out the exhaust? No ?

The leaner the mixture the more prone to detonation it is, plus the flame front is much hotter and can actually melt a piston.

It would seem to me that a lean mixture would allow the gasoline to fully react, and having oxygen in excess, just blowing that out the exhaust? No ? think of it this way. there is a lot of heat inside a cylinder when its making power. the heat inside can cause detonation. the more fuel you put in there (rich), the better cooling and protecion you get. the less fuel you have (lean), the more you risk detonation. you can clearly see by looking at the a/f chart that its only a matter of time till that motor goes, based on how lean it is. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
