Hey guys. I live in a apartment complex where for all of a sudden, alot of hoodlums are living in now. I mean, they look at my car all the time it passes by esp. when I have my stereo up. I'm very insecure nowadays that my baby will be stolen. Is there any alarm out there that is really really good? I'm NOT talkin cheap, esp. the ones that set off on gay ass rice mufflers and such. I want a GOOD alarm. Also, I would like a Alarm Beeper too whenever my alarm goes off if there is such a thing. Any beeper that I can carry with me and will tell me that my alarm is going off. Anyone know?

look for one with a 2-way LCD pager. if your not worried about expense Python, Viper, Clifford, Audiovox are all high class companies.

I have a Code Alarm (sub-company of Audiovox) CA160. got it from eBay for about $120 shipped and installed for about 100.

I can do the installation myself. It's just the sensors I'm worried about. I don't want my car alarm to set off just becuz of a gay ricey muffler coming by.

i did the install myself as well. it was moderately difficult. theres a small dial on the shock sensor that u can adjust for sensitivity. plus a mode that does a quick chirp if the sensor is tripped momentarily by loud noises like mufflers or planes instead of full alarm going off. u can even tell it to page your remote if it does only chirp. most 2 way's are long distance too. ive tested mine 5 houses down my block and it worked fine.

A viper alarm is the way to go. But if you decide to get it, make sure the guy tells you EVERYTHING that the alarm is suppose to do. The guy that did my Viper alarm did it very crappy. Mines just pages me whenever it gets set off, but its suppose to tell you if someone is inside your car, if it got hit, if sound set it off etc.. Mines will just tell me if the door is open, or the sensor went off.

really??? which version? mine tells me if it goes off from proximity or tilt, or if it was shock sensor or if the doors are opened.. but it doesn't tell me if someoen was in it or if sound set it off...

and btw.. if u r parked underground... i really wonder if the alarm can go through all that concrete

How does this system work? Will it work overseas? Is it via radio waves or cell network?

I heard a very simple way to make your alarm installation better is to just disconnect your hood release switch and hide the cable somewhere.

If not, it takes 2-3 seconds for a theif to smash your windows, pop the hood and another guy to cut the battery cable. Not much use of an alarm then...

I'm pretty sure most of the 2-way pager alarms use radio waves, like walkie-talkies. some have more range than others, mine came with a windshield mounted extended range antenna

I believe there are alarms that have backup power supplies for that reason. I'm not sure which ones though, if I find out I'll let you know

Air horns will wake everyone up! Interior piezo sirens will hurt the ears in the car to make a thief jump out! i have a Autopage rs-750lcd and I love it because it does not have that normal 6-tone siren. It has a LOUD unique sounding 1-tone alarm that is different from the rest.

Interior pics sent to the pager??? No way! That's friggin awesome...I wish I had gone for that, lol.

I'm really paranoid, too, esp. when I park up in the dorm parking lot at night here. I think every student who lives on campus and has a car has had their CD player and/or speakers stolen (including me, out of my last car)...except for the ones with the pager alarms, lol. Nobody else responds to an alarm if they hear it, but you know that you will if it pages you. I got a Viper, it has a starter-kill option if the car alarm gets set off, and instead of just shutting down the vehicle if it gets stolen when already started (possibly in the middle of traffic), you can set it so that it just won't start once they park it up and turn it off.

It makes me feel better. 200 for the alarm, 100 for installation...supposedly only a "certified" dealer is supposed to install it, though...

you shouldnt have your stereo up when you pass those kinds of people... thats a given.. and any alarm i dont care what brand will always go off from a ricey muffler or anything loud.. false alarms go with any alarm.. i had the top of the line viper alarm system 2 way lcd on my 240sx long time ago costed about like 500 and some change for the dam thing plus install at Best Buy. **** went off cause it was sensitive. if you can control the sensitivity then thats good. but ya gl
