Ok here's the deal. My Celica is an automatic. Before you say it, I know. "Automatics...soooo sloooowww!" Now that it's out of our system, here's my question:

What I was wondering is if you could take an automatic shift knob (not the shifter assembly, just the knob) from a 7th gen celica and use it to replace the stock knob in 6th gens? Has anyone tried this or has anyone proven that it will/won't work?

I don't know if it will bolt up or not, but it will swap. You can buy those universal shifters from auto parts stores or ebay too. And I'm talking about automatics. If I had an auto, I would try to wire up some kind of paddle system. I know how to do it, it's complicated, but cool.

Hrmm...a paddle system. Now that would be cool. Especially if the steering wheel from a 7th Gen GT-S automatic would bolt on. If you were to create a paddle shifter system for a car that didn't originally have it, would you be able to switch between manual and auto mode?

The wiring would be complicated, but it could work. If you don't know if you can switch or not, it is not something you want to tackle. It is a huge wiring ordeal.

Sounds like it. I doubt I'll be going out to my car any time soon to pull wires trying to figure this one out.-grin The aspect of doing something like this sounds very interesting. I mean, that would be one more way you could mod a 6gc and make it stand out from the crowd.
