being an mr2 owner im bias, but ilove my car. the 300z is a lot heavier a PAIN to work on and MUCH more expensive to mod. Drive them both, see what you like, but the deuce is a LOT of fun.

QUOTE(jdg371 @ Oct 21, 2006 - 9:37 AM) the duece is missing an engine!! OMFG!!! whata?!?!?! lol Duece FTW Wtf are you talking about? Frankly if your going to decide its what your going to use it for, if you want a time attack/ auto x/ and decent drag car get the mr2. If you want top speed /drift /drag get the 300z but its going to be much more expensive |

I'd go with the Z, but I'm biased because I'm a Nissan guy.

Okay this is probabily going to be very long but being someone that has build a 3SGTE for a Celica and owns a 300zx. Here are the good and the bads of both.
****now with buying a used car more then likly the problem areas have been fixed. But in the following i do have listed problem areas for both cars. Nissan 300zx weight: 3,494 lbs engine:3.0L Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 24-valve Sequential Twin Turbo Induction V6 with Nissan Valve Control System (NVCS) Electronic Multiport Fuel Injection Super Hydraulically Controled Active Steering (HICAS) VG30DETT V6 Torque: 283 ft-lbs @ 3600 RPM Horsepower: 300 @ 6400 RPM **** Maintenance Trouble Spots Clutch - On turbocharged models ,the clutch may slip because the clutch-pedal return spring is too weak. (1990-91) Fuel pump - Adding fuel-injector cleaner to the gas tank can cause corrosion on the fuel injector coils, which will eventually damage them. (1990-94) Poor drivability - A problem with the power transistor causes drivability and idle problems, and there was a voluntary recall to replace it. (1990-93) Power seat - The original power-seat switch sticks out and is often kicked and broken, but there is a revised switch with a shorter lever and stronger housing available. (1990) Windows - The power windows may shudder during operation requiring revised window regulators (1990-91), or the windows may not operate due to dust building up in the main power window switch. (1990-92) Replacement Costs A/C Compressor 730 Alternator 535 Automatic Transmission or Transaxle 1620 Brakes 350 Clutch, Pressure Plate, Bearing 450 Constant Velocity Joints 1400 Exhaust System 370 Radiator 400 Shocks and/or Struts 1300 Timing Chain or Belt Toyota MR2 engine: turbocharged 3S-GTE, which was again only available in Japan at 220 hp (164 kW) (as the MR2 GT) and the USA at 200 hp (149 kW) (as the MR2 Turbo) dual-overhead-cam designs with four valves per cylinder, mounted transversely behind the 2-passenger cockpit ***** Maintenance Trouble Spots Audio system - Several problems with the sound system including CD player that skips or fails to play due to lens distortion (1992), CD skips or displays "ERR" (1992-92), cassette tapes will not eject (1990), whining noise from the speakers produced by alternator (1991), sound cuts out in cold weather (1991). Audio system - The dome light may not work, the door speakers may cut out or quit working, and/or the radio may quit working because water gets into the wiring harness and causes corrosion in the terminals. (1991) Vehicle noise - A clicking or ticking noise, that sounds like a speedometer cable problem ,is caused by the drive-motor circuitry requiring replacement. (1991) Replacement Costs A/C Compressor 810 Alternator 295 Automatic Transmission or Transaxle 1125 Brakes 330 Clutch, Pressure Plate, Bearing 575 Constant Velocity Joints 1100 Exhaust System 345 Radiator 635 Shocks and/or Struts 950 Timing Chain or Belt 265 ******************************************************************** IMO working on both these engine's can be difficult for some people. They are both larger engines and give no room to work, personally i found working on the 300zx easier then the 3SGTE. As for weight.....I don't know the weight on the MR2 but with that car being so small it probabily weighs less then the 300zx. The 300zx has been a very popular car The Z32 300ZX Turbo was on Car and Driver magazine's annual Ten Best list every year it was available, from 1990 through 1996. The Z32 Turbo was also Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year for 1990. It was critically acclaimed by many magazines as being a complete turnaround from the Z31, which many critics felt was a sloppy-handling GT, far from the agile, sporty 240Z of years past. From the year it was introduced, it won many comparison tests against similar sports cars such as the Mitsubishi 3000GT/Dodge Stealth and the Mazda RX-7, as well as the Chevrolet Corvette, Toyota Supra and the Porsche 968. The Z32 300ZX also made it to Automobile Magazine's list of 25 Most Beautiful Cars in August 2006 and 20 Greatest Cars in April 2006 when the MR2 well wasn't even mentioned anywhere for anything. I guess in the end it all depends on personal preferance but i truthfully would take the 300zx over the MR2 anyday. sorry about how long this was... ...mybad......hope i helped a little and didn't just confuse you This post has been edited by celicagurl152003: Oct 22, 2006 - 1:49 AM |

^^^ your not entirly correct. If your talking about a more reliable car and less money to work on, the mr2 is better. More fun and agile in corners. And the mr2 HAS been mentioned in magazines...
on more than one car and driver list its been mentioned as top 10 for under 50 grand. Its a baby ferrari, what else can you ask for. Mr2 for the win dude. This post has been edited by Glitch001: Oct 22, 2006 - 4:24 AM |

I have a 300zx TT and I have to say its WAAAAYto heavy. I can feel the huge difference compared to the 3sgte celi I had. So I would probably say stick with the Toyota. Its true that I believe theyre more reliable. But look at both cars, they have mods, so that means the previous owners raced it so you might be looking at Maintenance soon.
Well thats just my $.02 Adios, David p.s Anyone wanna buy a pearl white 91 fairlady TT?? $5700??? Im in SoCal. |
