IF u are going for clarity (like SoundQuality car) then go with JL 12" W6v2 if u are going just for base then go for any reliable company, there is a bunch of SPL subs out there that are good.

The title of this thread should be..."I plan to lose my hearing before 4"
15s have horrible bass clarity and are overly loud..Reserved for audio contests..concerts..theaters etc. IMO. 12s have good tone...but don't pick up everything. Rumble and thump. Mid range speaker that is well rounded 10s have some punch and pick up tones that 12s dont. More punchy than anything. If you want alot of bass...buy any sub that sounds loud as hell.. If you want well rounded system quality..and clarity...go 10s or 12s As far as brand...you can't beat JL. I like Audiobahn for the price though. My ideal setups is two 10s and a 12..sittin right in my backseat. And it's coming..soon. |

It is fair enough to compare between sizes for a particular model sub made by a single company but don't assume that a 15" JBL sub would play lower than a 12" JL sub etc.
A 15 can play with perfectly good bass clarity . A 12 can drop to the depths. It is all to do with the design of the subs itself and more importantly, box design. |

15" is a better choice over the 12. You WILL NOT lose any clarity when switching from a 12 to 15 (of the same series) in many cases you will actually gain some. Why do you gain clarity? 15's have larger cones which are able to produce the notes needed with lesser movement of the cone. As far as overall sound quality goes, a subwoofer relies as much on it's installation (box and placement) as it does on itself so make sure you spend careful attention to that.
Great choice going with the Magnum D2. It is the #1 Sound Quality subwoofer (next to the Aura Sound MR, but that's 1000+ dollars) out right now and is also capable of being an SPL beast. This post has been edited by Mystify.: Oct 28, 2006 - 4:45 PM |

15 gives more bass which means the tone is lower and distorted, you will know when you turn it on by itself compared to a 12. The bad part of a 15 is that you will have to compensate with good mids and highs. The 12 is more cleaner. Bass is satisfying enough but does not mean it won't get deep. There are many 12's that have deep base notes.

I say one 12 is the way to go. My girl has one 12 inch sony and it sounds nice. So if you go with a Kicker, Alpine, Punch or JL Audio you will be happy. You have many other options I was just naming the more popular ones.

From personal experience, I have 2 kicker L7 12s which last season consistently destroyed a guy with 2 audiobahn 15s. I competed with SLAP and I can post the event standings to prove this. These subs sound good in ported box and are loud as hell. But overall it is personal preference because any setup can sound good with the right amp, sub, and box combo.
