Hi guys,

Wot are the fuel octane rates over there with you?

Over there in the UK we can get 95,97, 98, and 99 octane depending on the garage used.

I ve just put a Beams engine in my Celica and run 98 Shell fuel (called V POWER) the engine is a Import straight from Japan. i know they run higher octane there and i thought you run lower octane over with you.

So what fuel do you run imports on? how do get around not being able to get 100 octane like in Japan?

I know this thread has a few questions. I am genuinely interested.

The rating method for US gas is different than for Europe. Your 100 octane is close to our 94. Our 100 octane is around 108 to 110 there. Its rare but we can find 100 octane here in cali, but we have 87.89.91, and its not even good gas its like water, harsh for turbo cars.

i lived in Germany and i know they has 91 octane there and its as good as water the engines pink(dont know if ya get what i mean here) all the time.

why is our Octane rating different i m confused even more now!

I thought octane was octane a chemical term

The measuring systems are different.
You use RON (Research Octane Number) over there
Here we use PON (Pump Octane Number) which is an average of RON and MON (Motor Octane Number)
PON = (RON + MON)/2 , a.k.a. (R+M)/2

so with the differences on PON RON MON etc what do you run in my money?

most turbo car and sporty cars here run on 93 or higher. give better engine performance and all. so your safest bet is run it on the best fuel or 1 below the best if it's a beams engine. I could be wrong but that's what i am guessing

i run 94 here in ohio but i can only find it at a very few gas pumps, i would say run as high octane as you can find for your beams
