But how could the 4speed auto possibly be as fast as the 5speed manual (even with a shift kit)?

the only problem with a auto is the launch speed, the stock torque converter sucks and only allows a launch at 21krpm, witha torque converter u can launch like a manual and when the auto shifts it doesnt take its time it SHIFTS and there is no power loss like a stick un less ur a god at shifting then there might be competition. but with a good torque converter u can beat the hell outa ne stick, ive done it, ive seen a modded up auto prelude whopp a 5.0

I love having a 5speed... but I have to admit having an auto in traffic would be nice. There have been a few times I was in traffic for 2 hours and my leg went numb from the clutch. Why can't I ever get stuck in traffice on a down-slope??? Its never enough just to "drift"... anyway - I've always had and always will have a 5speed.

Even if I had a auto with a shift kit that would beat the sticks, I'd still take a stick. The main reason I love having a stick is because it's so much fun. I love dropping down a gear and hearing the exhaust scream as I go hard through a corner, and I love having complete control over what gear the car is in at all times.

Got to be the manual
I like the idea of driving my car, not my car driving me. |

manual++
Yes, if you are serious about drag racing; a properly setup auto is the way to go...but you should start with the celica or any fwd if you are serious.. ...but hey there is something to be said for originality and innovation. Anyway, but you can go buy your expensive shift kit, then show up to an autocross event...and get laughed off the track. |
