make a high compression head for a single cylinder engine and a matching piston. forged aluminum ftw! you'll have one badass lawnmower.

basic form of some famous art statue (like the guy holding the globe, I forgot his name)?
model the 3-dimensional structure of a carbon atom?

I'm not really sure what your looking for here confused.gif

a truss/bridge would be easiest wink.gif

even something simple like a trash can, pop can...something like that can consume a lot of time because of buckling.

Make a 4 point or 6 point roll cage for your car. Or you can make one for me.

i had 3 projects in my first shop class, one was a clock. had aluminum base, with brass and steel pencil holders and an acrylic face to hold the clock. not too difficult, but tolerances were really tight. processes included sawing, milling, turning/facing, tapping (both internal and external threads), drilling/reaming, counterboring/sinking, finishing (sanding for holders and beadblasting the base), and cnc. heres a few crappy phone pics i took a while ago.

dont know if this is exactly what you are looking for or if this is too easy, just throwing out ideas.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

if this "metals" class is welding and not machining you could do like i did and make a rolling tool cart and tool chest combo.
