So earlier today, I went to one of local flea markets/swap meets and picked me up a pair of 6.5" Boston Acoustics S60 component speakers for a reasonably nice price. Not many BA Authorized dealers around town, or so I've heard. But anyways, my front two speakers are blown and I'm wanting to replace'em. My only problem is that I don't know how to get started on it. I have the 6-speaker set-up in my car. If anyone can pull up a How-To article for me that can help me switch out the speakers, that would be friggin' awesome and I would greatly appreciate it.
BTW, while I'm switching out the speakers, would it be a good idea to put some Dynamat in the doors since I plan to add a small sub later on down the road? -Alex -------------------- -Alex {](O_o)[}

QUOTE(NgoFcukinWay @ Nov 18, 2006 - 2:45 AM) ok, i have the door panels off and everything, but i've no idea how to take the speakers out of the brackets. hell, i'm not sure if the 6.5" speakers I bought for the front will fit....help please. there are four screws that go thru the speaker ring into the bracket. take them out and pry speaker off. there is a black adhesive sealer that will pull apart as you pry. be sure when you install new speakers to keep the polarity of the wires the same. by the way for some added info i changed out the blown stock speakers i my 94 gt.i had four 5x7 infinity's that i had taken out of a ford i sold. they fit perfect into the front brackets. unfortunatly they dont fit the rear brackets. i am working on modding the rears by adapting a spare front braket i have. if it works i'll post the entire adaptation This post has been edited by cochise: Nov 17, 2006 - 10:09 PM |

thanks. my friend showed me the adhesive after i posted. heh. I thought there was some other screws hiding. We ran into some weird stuff while getting it all done. like, we didn't know that the brackets would need some fabrication to hold 6.5" speakers. Ran into a lotta weird things we weren't expecting. lotta ghetto rigging stuff. I took some pics of some of it, and I'll have it up either later tonight, or tomorrow with some detail about it. in total, we started at about 8PM and finished at about 3:30AM. Great learning experience though.

It's really unfortunate that Toyota chose to go with the 7" size. If you're looking for a more permanent solution, mjmautoinnovations has some really sturdy brackets for only $7:

use 12mm mdf. cut it to roughly the size of the basket. drill the holes. cut the hole to mount new speakers.

Done ^^ MDF will also reduce vibrations better. Use two layers of 1/2" MDF and stick some non-hardening clay in between them. And if all else fails, you can make kickpanels, which is ideally the best for sound imaging. |

man...MDF and brackets....why couldn't I find/think of these earlier. But then again, I didn't know they were 7" housings. -_-;; Anyways, as for pics, here they are.
There's the 6.5" Boston Accoustics mounted to the bracket and onto the door. We ended up slicing some of the wires that went to the OEM speakers and tweeters. Taped off the wires leading to the OEM tweeters, and wired the lines going to the OEM speakers to the input on the crossover. A close up of said speakers. And yes, that is slices of Dynamat holding the speakers in after we applied some Lock-Tite glue to hold the speakers to the brackets. The innards of the crossovers. Yes, that too is a slice of Dynamat behind the crossover. That's my buddy Jose trying to figure out how to mount the tweeters in the stock location with the stock cover. Finally we said, "Fcuk it." and grabbed some electrical tape around the tweeter for a while. Popped the grill out from the stock holders and squeezed the tweeters in there with their electrical tape casing. They're all stupid ideas, but they work for the time being. This was all happening at around midnight. We didn't get done till about 3:30AM with it all. We did however manage to mount some Dynamat into my trunk lid and I replaced the bulb in my driver side fog light. when the lights are on. after you turn off the lights. Anywho, the Bostons sounds superb. I had to turn down the Bass cuz those things were hitting hard and it started to distort things. My rear Kenwoods aren't as good as the Bostons to keep up with it all, but with the bass routed elsewhere, the Bostons are pretty damn loud. Now I just need to Dynamat the rear panels, some other parts of the trunk, and mount in a decent sub, and I'll be good to go. LMK what you guys think. -------------------- -Alex {](O_o)[}
