Just recently when I start my car and begin driving, there is a squeeling noise that can be heard from the drive rs side (I can't determine if it is from the front or the rear). When I put the car in reverse for a short period of time, then put it back into drive, the noise disappears...any thoughts?

QUOTE(Camax333 @ Nov 24, 2006 - 10:41 PM) Just recently when I start my car and begin driving, there is a squeeling noise that can be heard from the drive rs side (I can't determine if it is from the front or the rear). When I put the car in reverse for a short period of time, then put it back into drive, the noise disappears...any thoughts? Some things you could next time the car is cold (sitting overnight). 1. Does the noise happen only when the car is moving in Drive with the engine running? 2. Will the noise stop if you put the car in neutral? 3. Will the noise stop when in neutral at different engine rpm? 4. Will the sound stop only when moving in Reverse with the engine running? 5. Does it happen when the engine is shut off but the car is still moving? Put it neutral and slowly roll down a small hill and listen. 6. Does the car make the noise when it is warmed up or only when cold start up? If you are getting different answers to the 6 questions above there will be high probability that you can find the source of your noise. Yellow94GT |

I will check these different things the next time I drive later on today. I know that the noise only occurs when the car is moving. When I brake the noise seems to get slightly louder. The noise doesnt occur in reverse. It only makes the noise from a cold start. I will check if it makes the noise in nuetral a little later on.

Okay...so the car only makes the noise when it is on and moving forward. It does not make the noise in reverse at all, it does not make the noise if it is off and rolling in nuetral and it makes the noise whether the car is on and moving in nuetral or in drive. The noise stops when the car stops and seems to get slightly louder when the brakes are applied. What are your suggestions?

I'd jack the car up and inspect underneath for anything that looks like it shouldn't be there.

check your brake pads, could be the pad sensor hitting the rotor if theyre worn

The noise stops when the car stops and seems to get slightly louder when the brakes are applied. What are your suggestions? What are your suggestions? 1. “only makes the noise when it is on and moving forward” This is a combination of 2 situations engine running and moving. 2. It “does not make the noise in reverse” at all, This indicates direction is required for the noise 3. it does not make the noise if it is off and rolling in neutral This indicates direction can be ruled out for the source of the noise 4. and it makes the noise whether the car is on and moving in neutral or in drive. Indicates that noise is not Transmission Drive 5. The “noise stops when the car stops” Since we know the car is quiet when in neutral and rolling 6. and seems to get slightly louder when the brakes are applied.
7. #1 and # 6 are both situations where more than one factor is occurring So we don't know if the car makes noise when the brakes are applied when rolling in neutral 8. We still need to know 2 things. If you try both of those situations I think you'll help locate the the noise. A) If the car makes noise when the brakes are applied when rolling in neutral then there are brake noises. Yellow94GT |
