2 nights ago i was pullin up to a stop light and saw a civic ex there....i was all excited because for some reason people are afraid to race me, and i thought this guy would. Well the light turned green and i punched it. I took off with little or no competition, i could look in my rear veiw mirror and see him, BUT...then all of a sudden he started to catch up. then he passed me. We were doing about 85 mph and he blew past me like i was standing still. needless to say he beat me. I am still dumb founded as to what happened. It didnt seem like a fast enough boost to be nitrous, could it have been his turbo kicking in? I am dumbfounded...and now my friends make fun of me....especially the one that drives a civic. My car is pretty much stock except for a injen short ram, but i dont think that i would have been beaten that bad unless the guy had a turbo.

By the sounds of that he stuck it in 3rd or 4th and has a very large turbo on it, so it took a while to spool and then they just take off. Which left your standard car for dead.
On a more personal note: HA HA HA HA HA you got beaton by a civic!! Joking you don't know what they have unless you pop the hood, very deceiving some cars. I didn't reconise the name as I hit post and then saw it was first post so I'll welcome you to the forum while I'm still at it. This post has been edited by SXR: Aug 2, 2003 - 11:05 AM |

well if it was a new EX, chances are it had that sohc vtec engine and those things shine after 60mph.
i raced one till about 90mph and managed to stay ahead untill a light came up. after that we just drove side by side i HIGHLY doubt he had a turbo. if he did he wouldnt have a huge turbo that would start boosting that late in the game -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Actually a big turbo spools up late in the rpms. He could punch it any time he wanted to and blow by him. He had a turbo, or maybe a gsr motor swap w/ or w/o a turbo. Either would fly by you. I don't think the greddy turbo would fly by you. However it is good for a 15 sec 1/4 mile. Do you have an ST or GT?

in that case, yes that honda was not stock. if an ST can keep ahead of regular civic ex's, then a GT would walk them. i thought for some reason you had an ST -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

If i was the guy in the civic I'd see how FAST you really are by just barely pushin my car and until I can see just how fast you're going in WOT mode...Either I back out cuz you too fast or just smoke ya if ya are laughably slow.
With that said, there's a chance that the civic guy don't have a large turbo. If they did they should be able to fly once they're bout 60mph |

I don't think the guy had a turbo. It probably was the VTEC kicking in at that high speed. Remember his 5sfe is made for torque, which is why he beat him off the line so easily. I have a Nissan Altima with a 2.5 and when the CVT kicks in at highway speeds it's unreal how quick it is. That's what variable valve timing is, and that's why our U.S. sixth gens got the short end of the stick.

Maybe he did have a turbo, you guys keep talking about spooling this spooling that, if the guy in the civic thinks like me then no wonder you got smoked doing 85 or so. Your sitting in your car right and maybe for this scenario, you got a 3sgte in your GT and some punk in a Civic with wing and coffee can thinks hes got a machine and decides to take you at the light. Just fuqing laugh at the fool and let him think hes hot **** untill you blow by him like he pulled a chute. Thats what I would do and sounds like what that guy did to you. YO ITS CALLED A SLEEPER! Whats the fun of blowin him off the line when u can give him a head start and really make him $hit tacks when you make a gross display of horsepower. Maybe he had a turbo or maybe he had some nice all motor swap but Im sure he wasn't expecting you to race and when you did he just laughed and said "Is this guy fuqing kidding". It kinda sounds like nitrous though, like he waited till he was in fifth gear at WOT and just punched it, that kinda explains why you were already going 85 when he went by you.
I cant think of any better satisfaction than embarissing someone in a sleeper....maybe a nice steak dinner |
