Hi i'm new here, hello everybody!!
just own a '99 and find out the trunk won't open. look like a known issue... how to fix? any advices? thanks! -tom |

Yea I have the same problem.its known..you gotta bring it to the dealership to fix it. To open the trunk you have to hold the key to the right and open it using the spoiler....lol

Yep, mine's the same way. The remote trunk release won't do it. How much does the dealer charge to fix it?

Mine doesn't work either, but it's simply because my trunk lid is so much heavier than stock due to several layers of sound deadener and an aftermarket spoiler. That may be the cause of your problems.

ive got the same problem and im pretty sure its the gas shocks that open the trunk its about 60$ each from an auto parts store, do it yourself. Im about to just gota get 120

I was going to replace the shocks, but then I figured they'd die quickly, because my trunk is very heavy. Most chicks can't even lift it up, and when I turn the key and tell my friends to lift, they're always saying "Dude, it's not opening, just because it's so heavy."
So what I want to do is make it one of those flip-flop trunks where the trunk lid stays flat and just moves up. Someday I'll have to look at that and see how I'm going to do it. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...
