I have an imported JDM ST203 with four-wheel steering. Best car i've ever driven (and that includes Scooby STi IV, Lancer Evo VII and Supra Twin Turbo). Not a lot of power, but handling out of this world.

Only problem is, it's restricted to 180km/h... There are Speed Cut Defenders available, but I've heard that
all that's required is cutting one wire on the management computer.
If anyone has any info or links it would be greatly appreciated.

I am willing to experiment and post pics and results for other drivers with the same annoying problem.

I still suggest to use a Speed meter from Apexi, Pivot or whatever reliable Jap's brand.

The meter could serve as a decoration for interior and could prove the TOP speed, IMO install it better than an unforeseen experiment.

Here are some info. from a site:

IPB Image
Apexi RSM
Apexi RSM - speed/rev reading - battery voltage reading - time trial (0-400m) - lap time - monitor HP - G-force reading

IPB Image
Apexi I-Moni
Apexi I-Moni (I-Monitor) - rev monitor - water temp - intake temp - speed reading

IPB Image
Pivot Speed Meter-X (SML-X)
- speed display - time trial (0-100kph, 0-200kph, 0-400kph) - eliminate speed cut - applicable for Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan

IPB Image
Pivot Speed Meter-Z (SML-Z)
- High Precision Speed Meter with MAX400km/h. - Speed Limiter Remover Function (Not for use on public roads) - Auto Displays Top and Low Speed for Each Curve. - Real /Auto Display Switching Function. - High and Low Speed Display Hold Function. - Compact, Easy-to- View, Adjustable Neck Design in a Titanium Case. - Compatible with a Wide Range of Car Models. - Automatic Speed Increase/ Decrease Detection System (Patent Pending) - Displays Top and Low Speed for Each Curve. Our Speed Meter Z includes a revolutionary new function bringing you information never before attainable: the ability to check your top speed just before entering a curve and your lowest speed during cornering. As your speed drops to enter a curve, it will display for 5 seconds your top speed and as your speed increases out of the curve, it will display for 5 seconds your lowest speed while cornering. - applicable for Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan

Or just buy a HKS SLD and your normal speedo still works too.

Thanks vincent_doggy, but the problem is importing the parts. Most websites do not recognise our credit cards, we are a very small country within the borders of South Africa, so online purchases when they work are almost not worth it because of shipping costs and electronic transfer of funds.

FYI, we have amongst the highest bank charges in the world...

Besides, I would really like to do it myself, as I am a tinkering enthusiast.....

We got a JDM Toyota Supra from 1993 here equiped with a HKS SLD with the normal speedo. Unless there are some major differences between our cars ECU and that one of the supra (Schematic wise) I dont see why it shouldn't work with the speedo working. BTW there are 2 version of the SLD 1 for auto and 1 for manual tranny's.

OK, so I cut the wire, (After disconnecting the negative battery terminal just to be safe).
I then got out on the road with great expectations, but alas, as they say...
way too much traffic...I managed a quick 150km/h in a heavily developed industrial area, but no more than 170 on the main roads. got stuck behind crawling traffic the whole way.
So I still don't know what happens at 180.
Will post as soon as i know, i realise Slick is itching to try it out...

Just out of interest as not really that useful to you guys but very handy in the UK - converting the speedo to miles per hour using a small component removes the limiter. Well, it doesn't remove it as such - it just means that the limiting only occurs at 180 mph which isn't very likely to occur unless you have a very heavily tuned 3SGE wink.gif

This of course only applies to JDM cars and the like that read in km/h originally.

Like I say - not that useful to most of you guys but relevant background.

Al

1 know one thing. Unless I will go to the track/racecircuit/nurburgring I wont touch the Speed Limiter at all. It keeps me out of danger and out of problems/tickets. I dont do streetracing, occasionally put my foot down and let it accelerate op to 100mph. Thats about it.

Already did 140+mph in the car with the 3S-GE in it. Dont feel the need to test out the top speed of the car, which after a bit of calculation cant exceed 250km/h (155mph) because of the gearing. That speed is reached at 7000 rpms.

BTW jaycee

Do you have pictures of the 4WS, I would like to see how it works and looks like.

OK, I know it's been a while, but I've been rather occupied. Been driving the celi every day for work the last two weeks (My Sentra had
issues, begging for a SR20DET...). I finally found a stretch of open road, no traffic. Put my foot down. got to 5200RPM (just over 180 on the speedo), and then she cut out... Back to the drawing board.

OK Kadett, will get some pics of the steering, the rears don't turn a lot though, just a few degrees. Makes a huge diff in handling though.

It takes a bit of getting used to, coz when you throw it into a corner the first time, it feels like the rear is sliding... Can't live without it now though.

That's too bad. I'm going to have to give a try also. Maybe the previous owner of my car realized the same thing and had it bypassed. I doubt it though. kindasad.gif
