Does anyone know if there would be any serious problems if the lining on the inside of the hood were to be removed permenantly? Mine is getting pretty nasty and i'm very tempted to remove it, especially because i plan on getting the whole car repainted soon and it would stick out like a sore thumb when i pop the hood.

You didn't have any color fade on your hood, or anything like that because of the heat from the engine? -------------------- "Remember, amateurs built the ark and professionals built the Titanic. many cars dont have them at all- my 96 celica st didn't
correct me if im wrong but i think it helps from ruining the paint on top of your hood with all the heat coming up from the engine and all like you said (color fade) This post has been edited by DSToyo: Jan 9, 2007 - 2:00 PM |

if i'm not way off i think it's there in case of fire, the plastic things melt and the lining will fall down to prevent it from getting oxygen

I think maybe toyota put inner hood linings on the GT but not on the ST. Thats why some of you have them and some do not. Perhaps it gets hotter under the hood of a GT because it has a bigger engine. I would personally like to know if removing the lining from my GT hood would cause a problem though because I'm tired of looking at it. Does anyone here have a GT with no lining? If so, has it caused any problems?

wash it with a pressure washer gently and then you can spray on heat wrap coating to make it whatever color you want it.

Think my fade maybe due to the bare manifold chucking out loads of heat!
