Hey guys, I changed the gear oil in the manual transaxle of my '94 GT, and it started to grind a little bit going into third gear. This only happened for a few minutes until the car was warmed up, then everything would be fine. Anyway, I thought the problem might be due to me using synthetic gear oil so I changed it back to conventional, but the same thing is still happening. Any ideas? I'm using the recommended SAE 75W 90. I would appreciate some help. Thanks

mine does the same thing, but only when i down-shift into 3rd. it's a quick grinding sound that sounds unhealthy. i changed my gear oil last summer, and that did a little, but the only real solution i found so far was double clutching.

Did you make sure if you filled it up to the bolt hole where you fill it up at?

All you need is some pennzoil synchromesh oil. It is slicker than what is recommended and lets worn synchros work like new. I had the same problem in my celica and it totally disappeared. I have posted this before and it works. You might have to order it off the internet as it can be hard to find. So enjoy this easy fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine did the same thing for 10 months. When cold it grinds. when it hot its fine. I put the 3sgte in the car and changed the gear oil. 1000 miles later its stuck in 5th and car wont move. Im not saying this will happen to you, just something to think about. wink.gif

So I tried that Pennzoil synchromesh oil in my tranny and to my surprise, the problem is gone. Thanks for the easy fix. I was always told that pennzoil is crap, at least their motor oil, but as for their synchromesh transmission fluid, it's a winner. I would recommend it to anyone.

My tranny has really started acting up lately. It used sometimes be hard to put into first until I came to a dead stop. Now it's hard to get into any gear at all. It feels like I'm gonna break the stick or the plastic mount underneath. If the car is rolling it feels like it is hard to get in and then will just drop in. If I forget to put it in 1st before I stop rolling to a stop it feels really hard to get in but will go in. Someone told me I need to change out a plastic bushing at the tranny where the linkage goes and that it is due to slamming into gear when racing.
Any ideas?
