Ya so I'm running 3" turbo back.. with a flowmaster 50 series muff.. over axle .. 3" cat.
Too loud.. I mean just idling on the street infront of my house and my front door vibrates.. you can hear the exhaust from anywhere in the house.. even the back of the basement.. it's not ricey at all.. it's just really really deep grumbling sound... I'd like to cut the idle noise down by atleast a third.. but not restrict exhaust flow. Enter stage left... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Glass-Pack-...1QQcmdZViewItem 3" in/out glass pack... Think this will tone the decibles down or what? Should I place it close to the engine as possible or close to the muffler as possible? -------------------- 87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer. Future engine swap... possibly a 2jzge.

I was recommended this product..
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv...744688_-1_10265 I'm not looking to get a deeper tone.. I've got enough of that already. I'm trying to kill sound (decibles) as efficiently as possible. I've also considered a straight through muffler.. using that in the exhaust system with the flowmaster.. I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible as well. You should get a magnaflow resonator for your 3" exhaust (I have one used in my custom exhaust setup). The major purpose for the resonator is to muffle the sound a bit on the bigger exhaust piping before the rear muffler. In other words the tone of the exhaust will be near factory sounding except you get the deep tone of the rear muffler and it's still free flowing. I think somewhere on the forum I have a posting on how it sounds like. If not, here is a sound clip for you just to show what I am talking about:

If you want your exhaust to be quiet and want a good exhaust flow without restrictions, there is no way that it is going to happen. I have 3 magnaflow straight flow mufflers, and it is still super loud. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice a hp or 2 to have a quieter car.
FYI, glasspack mufflers make our cars sound like trucks on steroids. |

I have two 2.5" glasspacks on my Camry (3rd gen 3s-gte) as the only mufflers... 3" downpipe, 2.5" mandrel bent from there back with an 18" and 24" long glasspacks. It almost sounds like a boat exhaust (burbling through water). Its not quiet, but it is not super loud.
I'd say a glasspack will reduce the volume a fair amount, but a large Magnaflow resonator (the biggest you can find/fit) would be better for sound quality and flow. Another option (for more money) is two different size resonators to kill more sound - each one will quiet a certain tone of the exhaust. You can have a decently quiet exhaust that flows well - you just have to put a lot of muffler volume in there to do it. -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon

Just put a single flowmaster 50 series on... it'll be really loud and very deep rumbly sound... that is my problem.. I'm trying to kill that noise cuz at idle it's rediculous.. not LOUD.. but the rumbling sound that comes out is like a drum.. it just beats its way through everything.. like I said I can hear the car idling on the street from ANY WHERE in my house.. I just hear a rumble. That is with a 3" cat too.. I guess i'll check out the resonators. -------------------- 87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer. I am thinking of getting those two.. Put both of them on the system that should quiet it down.. no? They are stainless and the shell is 10" long, 3" in/out.. so that is 20" of resonator.. Put them on after the cat.. that should hush things down..? Punisher, get a 20" magnaflow resonator and have it mounted after the cat. Pretty sure you'll be satisfied with the way the exhaust sounds after that And no it will not sound like a v8, but you can expect that from a glasspack or a flowmaster.

I'm not looking for a V8 sound I'm looking for a quieter sound.. I got myself a 5x8 oval magnaflow 18" long body muffler 3" in/out

I <3 Magnaflow; I did a 2.5" header back on my previous Camry with high flow magnaflow cat and an oval magnaflow muffler, and it was beautiful. Loud and beautiful. The only problem was that sometimes it was just too loud, but an inline resonator is probably your best option.
