I was thinking about trying to find a cheap deuce and fixing it up by following the recent scc write up... i dunno, i guess a more practical elise would be cool

I've driven both, and I guess I’m not skilled enough a driver to notice a big difference, but both these cars have large compromises in usable space and functionality. That said, the MR platform of the MR-S IS more capable and athletic, so I really do not see a strong argument for the miata unless its pure aesthetics you base your final opinion on. Stock for stock, they feel very similar, with the MR2 being the car that requires more "practice" to be successfully aggressive smile.gif This is coming from a guy who wishes he was 5 inches shorter so he could fit into a Miata to justify the purchase of one wink.gif

yeah, I'm 6'2" and I dunno if either of these will support my height very well, but I think toyota might do a better job

what really got me in both wasn't the headroom so much, its that my long arms had nowhere to go in both of them. Too low and narrow for my tastes...

I owned the mr-2 spyder and it was the greatest car ever. It handles amazingly around corners and pretty damn quick. Just wish I still had it, got into a car accident. Get the spyder and turbo it.

i wholeheartedly suggest the mr2. this has nothing to do with a toyota bias, i just think they're better enthusiast cars.

they handle fantastically, and while there isn't an over-abundance of power, they're exciting to drive.

i think they're the better-looking of the two, as well.

the miata has always been a good car, but misses the mark on a few key targets imo. it's a little heavier, a little softer, and a little less handsome.

MX5 vs MRS

Hmm its the infamous battle in my area's autocross fields.

Both can be "made" into track monsters. Both are great car, again this IS a Toyota based forum so most will go for the MRS. Ive driven a MRS.. first thing that it will do to a novice midship driver is "snap-oversteer"

I prefer the MRS for many reasons. Midship being one of them. Great balance between power/weight/style. TOYOTA built. Quick in corners. Can handle its own for a stock car.. street or track.

I kind of didn't like the gear box of the mr-s. It was super stiff, but after having the mr-s to a civic, I would do anything to have her back. But then again I love my Celica.

i would prefer to have the mx5 over the mr2. The mr2 platform is very fun to drive and handles amazing. But if you mess up it will bite back and hard. I think the mx5 front engine rear wheel drive set up is "slightly" safer.

+1, if you want a car you can throw around, get a little sideways, and just generally have fun with, then the mx-5 would be a better choice. MR2 is GREAT for corners and handling, but it's strictly business. It's a dangerous territory when you start throwing around a midship-rwd car, without a LOT of experience.

If I could buy a mr-s I would in a heartbeat! Its just sad they are blacklisted in Canada frown.gif .

I drive my friend's miata often..its a driver's car for sure, but just barely faster than the 6th gen gt. But it kills it in handling.
I love their built quality and feeling, but theres no torque!

I was thinking of maybe getting one myself..but I would put a Jackson racing supercharger...just to make it perfect smile.gif

Once it became FWD It started picking up the name "a girl's car"

Miata has also been known as a girl car.. .. Ive seen remarks of the MRS being cute and a girly car.
