people wonder why having your car painted cost so much money.
well, here is a quick indicator of why:
this is what its costs for 2.5 unsprayable quarts of paint.
this does not include the reducer (thinning additive ect) required, or the sealer that goes on before the paint, and of course the clearcoat.
the clear for my car will be over 200$
IPB Image
then whatever body work needs to be done..i had ~4-5 hrs done on my car in the wheelwells.
then we spent prolly 10+ hrs sanding(always at least 2 people working on the car during the sanding tho..)
ohh, and fitting the body parts (that was easy, only the rear extensions needed to be fitted, those are the only copys. everything else fits perfectly.)
then blowing down, washing off, preping and taping the car off, ect
paying for booth time, both for painting and drying
paying the painter to actually PAINT it..lol
then unmasking, detailing, and reassembling the car.
its alot of work, and alot of man hrs to paint a car.
that said, im SO glad i got the chance to work at a body shop and learn all this stuff!
there is no way i would have been able to afford to do it without doing alot of this stuff myself.
heres a couple pics of the car in the booth, just about ready to paint.

i know the bodyshops around here say not to touch it for a week or so

nope.
the product we used is sandable within a few hrs after baking.
but ONLY when its baked on.
the car is baked @ ~150* for about an hr.
once the car cools for a couple hrs after that, it can be wetsanded and buffed.
