Ok here it is. I am attempting to totally rebuild a 3sgte engine and have it put out around 550 Hp to the wheels.

Now before you I go any further. Anyone who posts a "you cant do it" or "well u gotta have this and that" DONT respond. I am pushing the limits and this hobby wouldnt even be here if people never pushed the limits. So with that all said and done. Here it is

I have not got a definite list of parts yet, but they well mostly consist of HKS.

Please no negative feedback on this. And 550 HP can be done, just look at SupraStores 700HP one. I know thats at the crank but still. Oh and I have read about every single post on this website about the swap and other sites to. Sorry for sounding kinda mean, just everytime I ask a question I get people battering me, and 90% of the time they are legit questions. Everyone should be so luckly to have a website and place to share ideas. So lets not bash anyone anymore. Thanks Coomer for putting up an endless supply of knowledge!

Now since I am going to totally tear apart the motor anyway, and hopefully do an AWD conversion later. It doesnt really matter what clip I get. I want the st205, because it hooks up to an AWD system stock. But at the same time the st185 is so much cheaper. And I can do alot with the extra money I save. Now here is the question:

If I am to rebuilt the engine from the ground-up, including blue-printing, does it really matter which clip I get? The st185 can hook up to an AWD system right?

Thank you all, because I really need your help!!!

The ST185 and ST205 I believe are very similar in their AWD setup. So if you plan on going in the AWD direction, you'd be fine with either. As for power, the ST205 will probably be a better bet as well since it'll start you off at 250hp except that there aren't ALOT of aftermarket parts for it. Most parts are made for the MR2 3s-gte's which you can always custom. Plus, the ST205 doesn't have AFM like the ST185 which will make your BOV decision and setup much easier. My friend's MR2 has 550hp, so I can't honestly tell you it can't be done. But what I can tell you is...HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, I just looked at some graphs and literature and looks as if the AWD configuration is about identical on either engine.

I will post pics of all this when it happens. Thanks everyone and thanks Coomer, without this site I wouldnt even Know what a 3sgte engine was!!

First start off by doing your homework.. read any and everything you can get your hands on.. and don't me scared to call shops and companies and ask them questions. 550whp can be done.. try getting you hands on some old mags.. i'm sure i have seen a 800hp supra with a 3sgte engine they talked about the parts in the 3sgte.. so look for old mags... look for the rite turbo set up.. AWD can be done, but in my opinion i think you will be better off keeping the car FWD.. but good luck and please keep us posted i would love to see a celi with a 3sgte..

Let me say that 500hp @ the wheel is very possible, hut have to be stable.

builting 400hp 3sgte is just normally turbo swap, injectors and sometime ignition controlers and safc.

A 500hp is the same thing, but extra is needed, but not a problem. Check my part list for it.

Also, companies like http://www.extremeboost.com does it every day.

As always, the tranny, axles and other stuff comes into play.

Good luck and send me a sound clip or video when finish

I am aiming at the 500hp for my ST205 as well.
Maybe we could exchange some mods ideas.

May I add to your AWD conversion undertaking??
You would need to get the rear clip of a ST205 as well because you have to move your fuel tank to the rear to make room for the middle drivetrain.

I'm not sure about this, but I think the 3sgte form the st205 may have a slightly different head design then the st185. I think any difference will be in the valve angle, I'm not sure you might wanna check this.

I'm not sure about the valve angle...

The things I remembered were the turbo in both models are different.
ST185 uses CT26, ST205 uses CT20b(the compressor housing is a little larger).
ST185 injectors are 440cc each while ST205 are 540cc each.
The ECU for both models are tuned differently as well.

The head from a st205 and st165 are infact different. If I am not mistaken it has to due with the intake and exhaust ports being of different shape. The 1 st gen has large almost rectangular shaped ports with the 2nd and 3rd gen having samller oval shaped ports. Between the st205 and the st185 the differences have to due with the valve shims and their placement. Hope this helps.

Johnny

did you mean st185?

anyway, really, the st205 would be better to go with because it has a better head design.

but since you will be changing a lot of stuff inside the engine, i dont think it would really matter that much.

You need to research the AWD conversion. It's tough. To do this, basically you need the rear clip of a 6th gen GT-4. Since you're aiming for 550...which is easily easily reachable...you will probably want to start with the st205 front clip.

Here's my suggestions:
1) Find a 6th gt4 that was smashed in the side, or in other words the front and back clips...do all the work and waste a bunch of time.
2) Import a GT4.

Just my two cents.

yea dude, u could do 550 with an st205 or an st185, prolly would end up cheaper with the st185 anyway. you have to makeup for 30 HP, thats it. st205 has 255 stock and st185(JDM) has 225 stock. considering the costs and the fact that most things that fit a 3sgte will fit any 3sgte, and there is prolly more of a market for 2nd gen enhancements because more of them exist. plus an st185 clip costs about half of what a st205 clip costs. i bet if u got an st185 and spent enough on it to make it cost the same as a st205, you'd be around 350 hp right there. if u strictly just want the better engine, get the st205, because it IS better, but dollar for dollar, the st185 is prolly a better bet. but thats just IMO.

Dude, you can do it. You sound motivated enough and have enough heart and dedication to do it. I am planning on doing the same as you but since im in the us, it will probably be a little easier. Good luck and God speed!

Hey thanks alot guys. Yeah, I think I have read enough info on the swap to make my eyes bleed. Anyways, I am probably going to get everything together withing then next 3 months if everything goes according to plan. I am gonna wait a little while after that to install everything. That will give extra time to find the right parts, prep them and sell off the extras. And why the hell not, I might even convert it to RHD. Just Kidding, Unless it can be done............ tongue.gif

RHD eh? well.. it CAN be done. it would just be way more of a pain in the A$$ then it was worth. the key to gettin RHD is getting a good condition front clip, cuz that would include everything you need to convert to RHD. Then add a few thousand more onto your labor costs, and it would end up cheaper to just import a GT-4 and make it legal. im personally a LHD type of guy, but hey money makes anything possible.

Yeah, RHD is what I want. But I will wait until I get my Skyline for that. And by the way, I live in Los Angeles, and the last time I looked at the map is was still in the United States.

HaHa! you got called a mailman. um... i don't know if that's suppossed to be an insult or what, and um.. i dont really know where i'm going with this, so here's my comment.

yea dude, wait for a skyline, cuz u can get one of those legal for like 30k, right?
if you were going for completely jdm (3sgte, awd, rhd) then yea import a GT-4 and then start working on it. but it sounds like that is not your plan. but if it is, that would be sweet too.
