Goodness...I think all the auto drivers should just stop trying to make there car sound better by saying it has a special button on the automatic shifter. Yea...I am sure an AUTO ST would beat a z28....hahahahaha. I bet. Autos are slower, accept it. Sorry,also....manuals can do that too...it's called downshifting and we can do it all the time not just up in the higher speeds.

Wasn't there just another 3 page thread on this same topic? Okay, the O/D isn't just a "4th gear". It works at every speed. Your car revs much higher in every gear with it off. Sure, manual's may go faster if you have a SKILLED driver. I''m not saying anything about people's driving skills on here, but I'm willing to bet that most people aren't as good as the S**T they talk. I can see teenagers on here grinding through their gears right now. Oh yeah, and neither an auto or manual ST can beat a Z28 or Trans Am. A base V-6 either one can smoke our car unless you've got serious mods. If you beat them in the "twisties" it's not because your car is faster, it's because the other driver sucks! There's no use arguing about an auto or manual in an ST econo-coupe, when the only difference with a skilled driver using a manual is marginal at best.

That is a lot of BS... you should know by know that I have a boyfriend driving a Turbocharged Trans AM and you should know that with the turbo he has a little under, about 1-9, horses under his uncle's vette... His uncle likes to go racing on road courses around here, when they have practice and amateur events... I have even went up against him and his uncle at one event and... D*** I ran right there with his uncle until his uncle's engine broke a few of its push-rods... in the end though my boyfriends TTA out ran me so on the last lap which was an all out no holds bars A** of a Job to do on that course... AND there were planty of imports there and in the end MY boyfriend and ME and A '96 Camaro SS finished in that order first and The other 7 generation Celicas and base Camaros and Mustangs, all lost... And even my moms Viper had its engine let go... SO KNOW WHAT, if you don't believe me, let me know your number so my boyfriend can tell you... The only reason probably that I won was because my uncle had replace some of the stuff on my car with lighter weight stuff like the hood that he painted to look like the rest of the car... and the rims and tires... and a few other minor items like radiator and air condensor... and also because I have been driving my auto for long enough that I know what its limits are and I can push the car to my limits and it laughs and says that this is it, you don't have any thing else... My mom also has an manual 5 generation st and it is so slow that I could smoke it through the quarter by abou 10 car links and that around here with our weather, equats to about 3 sec advantage... I'm sorry, I've got to call B.S. on that. There's no way your Celica ST beat a Camaro SS, Corvette, Viper, turbo Trans Am, etc. You've got to remember that this is a celica site and hello, I own an auto ST. I love my car, but it would get SMOKED by those cars in ANY type of race. If this event actually happened the way you say it did, then the people driving those cars are such pitiful drivers that they shouldn't be allowed on the road, and everyone should fear for their lives. Put the same driver in any of those cars and then in a Celica ST and the Celica ST would not even compete. An auto ST doesn't even want to touch 100 mph, I know, I had to push mine to do it. Hell, 40-60 in our cars is like 3 seconds. Those other cars are 150mph monsters. I can't even fathom an ST competing with them. In Gran Turismo racing, those cars would be like A-B class, ours would be like G class. Those are 300-400 hp cars! Putting lighter weight stuff on your car isn't even going to make up that much difference in power/weight. I'm sorry but that story is unbelievable.

actually, my auto 97 ST hits 105 at redline in 3rd gear and the car still slowly pulls, ok, very slowly. In terms of the 105-110hp the ST has, the 5spd does make a difference. It has shorter gears and is more efficient. Now with z28’s, the autos are actually faster, and the longer gears combined with the constant throttle of an Auto is good for a turbo car. But with NA power, the shorter gears of a 5spd make a noticeable difference. The OD button does make a slight difference, but it does disable 4th gear when turned off. It wont make an ST faster than a trans am, let alone a turbo trans am. The only hope of keeping up is being an excellent driver on a very twisty course. And when I was at LACR, I made runs with OD on and off and it did not make a difference. I was messing around with a 03 G35 coupe on a mountain road and several times I would leave him about a mile behind. When I pulled over to a side of the road with a viewpoint, the guy pulled over and asked how much power my car had. He felt bad that his 280hp car had trouble keeping up with my 105hp car. Put me in the driver’s seat of the G35 and I can kick the **** out of any NA 6th gen. Celica. That guy just didn’t know the limits of his car yet. I never ever say that my car is fast. When people ask me about it, I say its pretty good for 105hp, which is the truth, my dad’s civic dx has more HP and it’s a whole lot slower than my car. Btw there is no chance in hell that a Viper, a 6spd 400+hp extreme handling, high quality machine will ever lose to an auto ST in anything other than a MPG race. Let alone an American muscle car with a V8. Neither Auto nor manual is better globally. It is up to personal preference. I like auto for daily driving, nothing beats the fun of driving a manual. Put my car next to another 97 st with a 5spd and I will get owned, given that the driver knows the car. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Stop it... the 94-99 celica is an underpowered sporty car. It has real good handling
and is very nice do drive indeed, but stop comparing with REAL sport cars. I have a manual 94 GT lighly modified (the more powerful 6th gen you can get in North America) and don't feel much more power than my previous car (lazy honda accord 92 ex). Aint no lame driver too... If you want power and celica, go for the st205 engine. END of dicussion. |

If your bf paid for your downpayment then why you calling us "scapes". And threatening people over the internet is REAL brave...oohh im scared. Get real!! You made up a story to try and look cool....got bs called and now are trying to get out of it. Like everyone else said, the only way you could have beaten those cars was IF you were a good driver, and considering that some of your other post have been very noobish(is that a word?)questions, i doubt that you can driver well enough to beat those cars. AND i didnt get a Supra because they are not very practical for driving around in Alaskan Winters. So PISS off!!!!
P.S. Bring it on Beeatch!!!! This post has been edited by Toyota_guy31783: Aug 28, 2003 - 4:13 AM |

She's right, I did buy my car because I'm cheap. The 3 main reasons I bought my car: 30+ miles per gallon (only fill up every 2 weeks), reliability rating higher than Civics and Corollas (which are very reliable cars in their own right) to cut down on maintenance costs, and it looked way better than any other economy car (Civics=common). That's what makes our car better than any other car in its class. However, at least I bought my own car, and not my Sugar Daddy, and I don't make up BS stories online. You're a cheapskate, you couldn't even afford a down payment on a used Celica ST. That's pathetic. Making online threats while hiding behind your boyfriend doesn't scare anyone, either. Why don't you stand on your own 2 feet? If you don't like 6 gens or the people here then get off, because this site is for those of us who like our cars. I can't believe someone like you who can't even spell correctly or use correct English can even possess a driver's license. What a scary thought.

[FONT=Impact]Oh no!! I hope baby girl and her b/f don't see my celica because then she might want to race me in her ST!!! That is such a scary threat! I guess since we didn't end it you, you're b/f, and his pallies are "tick" off.
So you're b/f raced you in a ST Auto against his turbo charged trans am for 7 grand?? Ok....how can I say this bluntly?? He's an IDIOT. I am trying to figure out what you mean when you say "crap a*s supra like a little baby"? Your answer is yes,I could not afford a supra. Like BlackSTX said....seems you could not afford an ST since your baby had to pay the down payment. You're making no sense, sorry. Also...why didn't you get a supra? You and your b/f could cruze around in that when his trans am came down with a freakin cold. You are a hypocrite. You are stupid. Stop making lame cuts at us and stop making up BS stories and stop talking about your b/f. NOBODY cares. Little girl,go to your boyfriend's pontiac forum,I'm sure the people there are dumb enough to believe your crap. Thank you! You are a silly silly girl. Stay in school or something....gosh |
