Hello, I was just wondering about a sound coming from a BRAND NEWLY INSTALLED BY A TOYOTA TECH. timing belt on my 94 gt 5s-fe engine. I just had it replaced and it makes a whining sound when revved. Sounds a little like a whislte/whine like a supercharger would make. I asked the tech and he said it was normal since it was new. I was just wondering if maybe the belt was rubbing on timing cover, or if maybe is normal, when revved to about 3k plus, its VERY noticable. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Could be a pulley going bad. Was the water pump replaced? They don't usually whine when they're replaced.... -------------------- |

WOW! i cant believe it im not the only electric motor sounding celica anymore, mine has doen the same since i got mine replaced LAST SUMMER!!!! it still does it my guy cant figure it out it pisses me off sometimes. Ohter times it sounds kinda cool. but no supposedly there is nothign wrong its just the tensioner is supposedly not used to the new tight belt and over time it will move into proper position and stop sounding.

is the whine sound like one of those toy cars? If so, that is probably normal. 13 year old car+old engine = bad

If you over torque pulleys or tensioner bearings bolts , they will make noise similar to bad axle bearing. If drive belts are to tide they also will make noise. I worker for toyota dealership and none of the tech that I saw doing t/belt used torque wrench to torque to right specs. Another thing is the washer between crank pulley under plastic cover can be reversed and will drag on the plastic. When I do t/belt I always change all parts seals, tensioner with new spring, drive pulleys, water pump and thermostat. |

No its not normal! Its a bearing...whether it be the alternator, a/c compressor, tensioner or water pump pulley bearing thats for you or the mechanic to figure out.
For me it was my a/c compressor clutch pulley bearing. Replaced it and its quiet as new This post has been edited by bufferdan: Jul 13, 2007 - 1:22 PM -------------------- |

If the whistle is coming from the timing belt area it could be that the timing belt was installed to tight.

I have same problem, thats sound apears at 3000 4000 rpms, then i replace timming belt tensioners and seals, and guess, wasnt that, the answer, water pump bearing, now i have to move again that area, and it's really a pain in the a@!# when you have a old car and some bolts are hard to move :s
