Ok I kinda have an idea as to what a Curren is, but not well. To me it looks like a Celica coupe with a different front end sold to the JDM market only, but thats all i know. So, when were they made, where were the sold, what engines did they come in, and all the differences is what i wanna know. Also, since the Curren was sold in japan, were Celica coupes ever sold there, or were they just liftbacks? Any good websites out there with more info? Thanks!

ding ding ding! you are correct. well... mostly correct. the Celica coupe is merely a Curren with a Celica front end. they share the same frame so it was very easy for Toyota to do. as for the Curren, they were sold only in Japan and came only in front wheel drive with one of 2 engines, 3sfe or 3sge. TS, XS, ZS and TRD Sports were the model names if I remember correctly. if there is anything else you want to know give me a holler. |

I guess the Celica interior is ugly too then, because they are the same. the picture on that site is wrong, they are completely identical. |

Curren was made for those Japanese who didn't like 4-eyes face of Celica.
Anything else are almost the same (it's coupe), engines were: 4S-FE, 3S-FE, 3S-GE Though the prices of it were originally equal to those of Celica (the most expensive was ZS Sport selection equipped car - $20000), now it for some reasons cheaper. When I see it at the road, I always look it back, nice car. |

that pic of the interior isnt of a curren, its some other car more than likely a big JDM sedan cos it has a foot parking brake.
the interior of the curren/celica is just a mirror image of the interior of the celica in US. Curren comes in 1.8, 3sfe and 3sge, but Celica didnt offer the 1.8 and had teh beams and turbo engine. i dont know how it was marketed in Japan but i think the Curren is slightly below the Celica judging by their engine options. |

There were also 4-door Toyotas based on Celica: Carina ED and Corona Exiv.

Yeah, I bet anything that interior picture on the site i listed is from a Carina ED. The mirror shape is the same, and the door openings are small enoguh to suggest a sedan. As for the Curren, after some extensive internet research, I found quite a bit of information. There are more models than we all realize. There were 1.8 models in TS and TS Private Selection model grades, and 2.0 models in FS, XS, XS S package, XS Touring Selection, ZS, ZS S Package, and ZS Sports Selection. Also, it seems the XS Touring models carried 4 wheel steering. Front and rear ends changed slightly for 96, and they were produced from January of 1994 to August of 1999. Also, since the front end treatment was different for the Curren than that of the Celica, it makes you wonder if Toyota noticed the huge failure Honda had when it released the new Integra in 93 to Japan due to its dual round headlight treatment all American Integras carried. Honda repalced the front end on the Japanese Integra for the 94 model year to a conventional front end, due to the low sales. just a thought... Also i found a site with TONS of Curren pictures. check the link.

saleeka, good info.
as for your theory re: the dual round headlights. from what I understand the curren was supposed to compete with the silvia. hence the similar headlight design/and coupe rear. |
