So, im gonna be completed my college program in about 2 years time, and I'm wanting to go work abroad for a year or 2. My girl friend is also planning on coming along too to finish her Masters Degree. She has some relatives of hers who live about 20 minutes out side of Aukland. Any ways, ive been doing some research on the lifestyle and claiming residence in new Zealand. Now heres where the questions come in. My girl friend and i are most likely going to be married and will be living together for at least 2 years time before we go and she also has her British citizenship because she was a direct decendant of british citizen. Since she has her british citizenship and New Zealand is part of the British Common Wealth, would she gain entry/have ability to work in NZ? Also, by the time i come over there I will be a class A liscenced autmotive mechanic in canada, would this certifcation transfer? Is there any demand for mechanics in NZ, mainly the Aukland area?? Would I be able to apply for a working Visa or citizenship because of this too? We would b staying for roughly 1.5 years at minimum but from every thing we have read and seen about NZ, we will probably stay longer. Also, are there any importing laws regarding importing vechiles from japan? does any thing have to be changed over to fit NZ standards?? Also would there be any problems importing vehicles from canada being left hand drive? we use the metric system aswell. Is insurance there very high for automobiles??
If any one can help me, that would be great. Ive been trying to figure alot of this out on the internet, but your governments site is very confusing. |

Try this link, I had a look at the governments web site and you are right it is damn confusing. As far as importing cars, getting them in from Japan is not a problem, a large percentage of cars on the road here are Japenese imports, (mine is and it came compleate with 100yen under the back seat). I dont know how insurance compares with overseas, I am paying about NZD$450 per year and thats for a over 25 male with a clear record. Hope this helps somewhat ![]() P.S you wont believe how many 6gen Celicas there are here! |

The website is www.trade-me.co.nz there should be heaps on there. |

I just talked to my workmate who holds a English passport, he seemed to think that there are no special benifits to having a English passport as far as getting a working Visa, also as far as employment check out www.seek.co.nz

You certainly can on an Australian passport, and I'm pretty sure you can on a british, but I'm not 100% sure. Citizenship takes 2-3 years if I remember correctly, but you can apply for residency in less time than this. Most of our cars are japanese imports of one type or another ![]() Left hand drive....I've seen a few left hand drive cars around, but I don't know if they're actually road legal. I would assume that they are, however. As you have a trade, you probably have a good chance in applying in the "Skilled Migrant" category This post has been edited by MercuryFree: Apr 24, 2007 - 12:02 AM -------------------- |

IE college university. I am not sure about the job market for mechanics, but as a whole we have pretty low unemployment at the moment. As far as higher education costs I managed to find this which will at least give you some indication of costs. http://www.unitec.ac.nz/unitec/index.cfm?8...mp;progList=yes Hope this helps ![]() |
