Hey guys got a bit of a tough choice to make soon,
Well about me, Im 21 & currently hold a full Uk licene with 0 years no claims, I managed to get insured on a 1.8 st for £1800 (altho i upgraded from a saxo 1.4 so diddnt pay the full £1800 in one go, but thats another storey) Well soon its coming up to my 1 years no claims so i could just about to get a GT, Renewal for a 1.8 st = £1200 Upgrade insurence to GT = £1400 My whole aim on this is to get a car worth doing up, full body kit etc, I cant do much on the engine as this will boost insurence thru the roof! What would you guys do in my position? Hope this makes sence Cheers |

well if you are going to look to get a car to do motor work to it from the stock motor i dont think you'll b happy with the 5s-fe because its wat i have and to me its very hard to find parts...or maybe im just not lookin in the right place but other then that the car is a beautiful car to do up and to have the sports model of the car...well to me is a must =)

QUOTE(cHinaman727 @ Aug 28, 2007 - 8:06 AM) i thought the uk got 3sge in the gts i am not sure about that either. i keep hearing both ways. they have a 5sfe, they have a 3sge, either way the gt is a better platform to build up IMO. since it has the s series motor swaps are a lot easier for the 3sgte or beams 3sge. it also has the rear disks. from the sound of it though, you don't want to mod the engine at all. if that's the case, there really isn't all that big a diff. (atleast that i could tell since i have owned both) there was a video that someone put on here of a st and gt both doing autocross on the same track and the st won. i would keep the st and save on insurance. maybe do a rear disk conversion. -------------------- |

not many differences between the 7a n 5s. however, im thinking you aren't worrying too much about the engine thats sittin inside 'er, so light mods (performance drop in air filter or cold air intake, custom exhaust piping/muffler, headers, timing advance, spark plugs) would do well for you and won't notice too much of a difference.
i'd go for cheaper..so you can save money for more parts and modifications -------------------- Pandelica 2.0 in progress. |

Cheers
Thats sound advise, I also forgot to mention the ST i have already has the rear Disc conversion, So at the Moment with the help of you suggestions im sure i will be sticking with the st, Like mentioned i cant do a great deal engine wise & be legal at the same time, Im planning Induction Kit (think ill get away with this) Full Body Kit + Rear spoiler , At the moment there is no spoiler & i found this a bit rare?? Alloys Still annoys me tho , the fact im restriced on what i can do beacouse of insurence prices Silly coz i currently have insurence on my motorbike for £200 that will happilly fly along at 160+ mph & they say its all down to performance for the high prices , Sucks eh? Cheers again This post has been edited by nyawton: Aug 28, 2007 - 4:20 PM |

Which insurance company are you with, nyawton? Have you tried Dorset Insurance Group? they're do discount for the UK celica-club and were also able to do a great deal for me in the past.
tbh, for the extra £200 on the premium, I'd go with the GT. The GT's gonna be more enjoyable to drive than the ST because of the extra power and there's not much you can do in terms of engine-tuning on the GT let alone the ST, so insurance hikes won't really be much of a concern. Where bouts in UK are you? -------------------- |

just wanted to ask everyone. does the uk gt have a 3sge? i know it won't have a beams but still. if it does have a 3sge i would be more prone to say upgrade because that is a 30hp diff (don't know the exact #s). if it is only a 5sfe than i will stick with my original mention.
do you have any pics of your current car? if you do that might also change my opinion. and to be honest anything you can do to a gt you can also do to an st. it just takes more work. -------------------- |

Hey there, I'm saving for a GT myself so should be getting one next month (In black!). I've had some insurance quotes and the best was Directline.com with their online discount. Being 21 with coming up to 3 years holding my license and 0 years no claims i got a quote of £80 per month, so id give them a try. Failing that go to one of those price comparison sites like http://www.moneysupermarket.com/ they usually get cheaper quotes because they bring more custom to the insurance sites. Hope that helps
