I just bought a Celi for 2500. Its stock, in excellent condition on the interior, a small bit of peeling of the gloss coat (on the hood) on the paint. It's a '94 fastback with 114k mi. It needs a new timing belt (it's never been replaced, so until I have the money to replace it, it's undrivable.), and there's a leak on the crankseal. I'm thinking I got lucky. Did I?

If it were in Washington - that would be a steal. Celicas are very high in demand up here.

In Florida... I don't know. You would have to ask all the FL people.

Side from the varying market value.. it seems like an average price. You didn't get ripped off, but I wouldn't jump to say a steal of a deal.. especially if it's curently undrivable.

im in Texas, got a 94 hatch with 125k for $1,500. I had to replace the timing belt and a bunch of seals and stuff. cost 800 in maintenence, and after registration and taxes it came to about 3k that i spent to make sure i could drive the car legally and safely.

id say you did ok!

oh and there is a small oil leak on my car as well!

maybe we have twin celis!!! what color? biggrin.gif

Sounds like you got a good deal to me. That sounds about the average price for that year, and that miles. I think I got ripped off on mine, I payed $3,495 for mine, it was a 95 , 167k miles, leaking oil from the seal, and needed all 3 belts replaced. but, I got it, so thats all that mattered.

I don't think you have to worry about having of been ripped off, 2.5k sounds about average or a little better than for that car.

Actually it's not a hatchback. I called it a fastback because thats what I had to check for the profile of my car, its got an extended back end. That and the auto trans are the only things about the car a really don't like, since they're permanent and can't be changed (well, I really wouldn't want to mess with a transmission conversion). I can drive the car, but I don't want to risk screwing up my valves by having the belt break while I'm on the road. So I choose not to drive it, rather than it being undrivable. But between having the tag and title transfered, taxes and repairs, it adds up to a high price for a High School student.

I live in Lake County, about 30 mi North of Orlando.

The car is black, with gold factory rims, and a gold pinstripe down the sides. I may be able to post a few pics tommorrow if anyone wants.

The timing belt is a pain in the butt to replace. And taking it to the shop would cost you around 700-900 depending on who you take it to. And also, the crankseal work. So basically, it would have been a steal if it didn't have those problems. But you are really paying about 4000 for the car which is a 'tad bit over price for a 94 celica ST. Normally those would go for 3200 - 3500. I got my 95 ST for 5000. Only becuz it was fully rebuilt by the dealership selling it. If it wasn't, I would have gotten it for 3000 easy since it had 150k on the motor. Nothing wrong for 3 years now. I'm still happy with it.

good price I think. I bought mine down here in South Florida for $2000. The dealership was originally selling it for $2500, and I talked him down. Mine had 166k miles on it and running fine. Need to tighten the power steering belts a little, but that's about it.
