I live at home with my parents, living pretty good since I don't pay for car insurance, food, cell, and other stuff. Yes you can say im partially spoiled. Im trying to figure out the cost of living away from home for the first time.

Total Cost Monthly:
-Specify how much and what you pay for? rent/utilities/other bills.
-Location
-Solo or Roomate
-[Optional] Monthly income

Add anything else that you pay for. I "want" to plan how much it would cost to live away from home, most likely I will step up to this in a year or so.

THANKS!

I'm actually also interested to see how much it would cost to live away from home. I pretty much pay for everything except rent.

My cost of living isn't so high. I make enough money to support myself entirely, mod my Celica, and go out and have fun.

I moved out of my parents house when I was 18. For rent I only pay $250 a month. I live in a house with 4 other people, so 5 people total. Car insurance for my BMW and my Celica is $150 a month total. Cell phone is $50 monthly. I have health insurance through work, but they charge me only like $60 a month. Gas is about $40 a week. College idk if you would consider that a cost of living but I was able to pay for that too. So really, it's $550 a month total not including any food or drinks you may purchase. I live in San Gabriel, California. My house isn't very nice by any means. My room doesn't have anything really, so there aren't many utilities I have to pay for. My room has no A/C or heat, and does not have cable/satalite or anything. Just a bed and a little TV i use to play games or watch movies or football or w/e. I'm home for only a short period of time each day so it's perfect for me. I basically only go home to sleep since I'm out for the entire day at school and working.

I'm looking to move into a nicer place in the near future because I feel like I'm ready for more now.

I own a house, 5 cars, live with my bf, 2 kids, and 2 giant dogs. Our bills are about $2200 a month - mortgage, bike payment, car insurance, cell phones, cable, electric, gas, water. That doesn't include food, dog food, clothes, etc.

My advice? If you can stand your parents, live at home as long as possible!!!!!

You could say I work for my parents, We have a few small business that I work in. I am "On call" for those, whenever they need me. I have to stop what ever I am doing and do the work, this is usually at around 12AM-2AM daily.

Im actually the least "spoiled". I have an older brother [25 I think...] that still lives at home [ I know gasp!] and he pays no such thing as rent. College was payed for in full by the rents, all his tools as well. [Mind you everything is Matco, Mac, and Snap On]

My younger sister [16?] gets anything and close to everything she wants.

My room is the dining room, I sleep on a sofa, my door consists of a curtain, I payed for all my clothes, electronics, college books, and 1/2 of my tuition.. this is why I consider myself "partially" spoiled.

I remember living on a couch frown.gif. But I also remember sleeping outside, and i am thankful for a roof over my head. So how old are you jdg371? Seems like you have it pretty good, what are your reasons for wanting to move out?

hmm..

i went to college for a year at Cal Poly Pomona for Mechanical Engineering. that totaled a nice $14000 that was paid through scholarships, grants, and student loans that i am sorta payin off..

i finished one year at CPP. wasn't the school for me. moved home for 8 months. moved out. started livin with gf payin half the rent. (was $785 for a 4 bedroom 4 bath apartment, split the $785 with my gf) n food.

i am still living with my gf, now paying $400 rent plus $150 of utilities (water is a large portion, we have lots of greenery) my job barely covers what i pay for rent and as far as school i enroll whenever i can afford it. its all outta my pocket so i dont get to do much..

so. my cost of living is:

$170~ per month college loan
$130 car insurance
$400 rent
$150~ utilities
$160-180~ per month gas
$125~ credit card payment
$100~ going out
--------
$1245 per month. wow. im 20 years old n thats how much i pay outta my own pocket working at a dead end job n going to community college. no wonder im sh!ta55 poor.

If you're going to college near home, then I suggest you to stay home. Screw the "I want to be independent". Milk it man. I decided to leave home for college because I wanted to play football. I had to live on my own with some really dumbass roomates and wasted a lot of money. And I never went out. Roomates suck. Live on your own if you can, but its going to suck when having to pay for rent. I would say in a month I spent 500 tops with every thing. Stay at home man. After two years of college and taking my "red shirt" I am going to shcool around home and get to live at home. Dude you'll miss the little things like laundry, home cooked meals and being with the family.

I'm 17, I'm moving out in August, and me and my best friend are getting an apartment. So far, this is what we have planned for as far as costs:
375 ea for a 2/1 apartment
200 for insurance
120 for gas
120 for food (eating extremely cheap)
75 utilities
200 Miscellaneous
I know I'm forgetting a few things, but I have a full ride as far as education in college goes. That comes out to almost 1000 a month.

just my mortgage is 1200 a month. In georgia (cheap cost of living). bills, 400, loans, 400, car 300, isurance 200, privies, etc, etc, etc.

Depending on the state, i say in the southeast, to live decent you need 20 - 25 k year if alone. If hitched, you need more!!!

to live a plentyful like in the south, you need bout 60 to 80 k total family income. then youd be great...

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment near my school. I split a bedroom for $384.50. Pay a split Comcast bill of around $24 a month for tv (showtime, hbo, etc, etc) and high-speed internet. Also, utilities depend on the weather but maybe around $30 a month?

I'm currently living at home, just finished up college, and other than rent I am self sufficient. I buy my own clothes, my own food, buy my own vehicle(s), my own cell phone plan, etc. - And my job makes me great money (~$3500/mo)

Bills:

Credit card - I try to go ~$150
Phone - $85
(when the WRX comes)
- Car payment - $325
- Insurance - $236
Gas - $100
Student loans - $150

= $1046/mo
