For the past few months I have been trying to take better care of myself by doing some basic "at home" exercises and have swapped out some of my junk foods with bananas/apples/red grapes/salads/ and v8 fusion.
The the holiday chocolate came and I broke my hand so it kinda dropped Now that I'm out of the cast and most of the sweets are gone I'm getting started again. I'm not trying to lose weight (i'm close to being underweight actually) and NO this isn't a new year resolution. It's something I decided to do and started months ago and worked on until my hand broke. I just didn't know if there were any nutritionist on here that could give some advice? I'm trying to eliminate junk food and away from processed foods but I love my pringles! I guess I pretty much know whats good for the heart and overall diet stuff but just didn't know what there is specific for organs in the body. Been google searching too. Just wondering if any nutritionist were here... -------------------- CLOSED on 25 acres! -shop coming soon.... |

chocolate is fine in moderation, just like the occasional red wine. don't forget berries and nuts, good source of antioxidants if you would rather go the natural route than vitamins. replace any soda or sports drinks (those are just as bad) with lots of water and 100% juice (juicy juice). carbonation and caffeine can eventually break down the lining of the esophagus leading to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) also lots of milk or if you're lactose intolerant, soy milk or calcium supplements. (good for bones)
since you say you are underweight, you need to gain just a little weight so no need to worry about avoiding junk food entirely, just choose wisely. cholesterol, a type of steroid, along with fats are a necessity to the human body so don't think they are the bad guys. avoid saturated fats and go with mono or polyunsaturated alternatives. you can do little things like switch out your butter and cooking oil with healthier alternatives (smart balance spread) http://www.fatfreekitchen.com/cholesterol/cookingoil.html underweight individuals are usually treated with a high kcal, high protein diet. (protein good for muscles) there is absolutely nothing wrong with pringles (unless that is most of your diet). they contain 0 grams of trans fat and are baked not fried. stick to your routine, add a little more calories, and make sure you keep your digestive tract goin' with fiber, and u should be fine. one more link http://health.msn.com/nutrition/articlepag...entid=100147031 and that concludes my 2 cents.... Eat whatever u want to eat...just cut out fried, greasy foods. Eat more meals per day but less portions (5-6 meals per day). ALWAYS eat breakfast and always carry snacks around (ie: peanuts, granola, fruits, veggies, etc). Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day cuz it'll cut down your appetite by filling up ur stomach. Don't drink soda because its packed w/ calories and sugar.
Just eat whatever u want to eat. Its all about portions and balance and cutting down greasy foods. Also try to cut down on red meat. Its high in protein but also high in cholesterol. Chicken and fish should be ur best friends (High in protein and low in cholestorol and fish is a natural source of creatine). Well i was a trainer meal planner for a chain of workout centers for a few years and read plenty about how to eat right. First thing is I dont really see what u r asking. U first need to have a goal, i know u said u dont want to loose weight. But u always need to have a goal in mind all the times, it dont have to be a goal like "put on 20 lbs. of muscle in 5 months." more like "No fast food and sodas for 3 weeks." If u just want to eat right just rememeber 80% of how u look and feel is what u eat. Best thing is cut out all fast food and sodas, point blank, execpt for maybe one cheat day a week, like say the superbowl is coming up, eat right the 7-10 days b4 hand and eat whatever u want that sunday. Then get back to eat right after. And in those 7-10 days say to yourself, "I wish i could have a big soda, but it will be worth it to drink some beers and eat pizza in a few days." And try not to drink any calories, but protien shakes and fat free milk, stick to diet sodas and iced tea with sweet and low. And pringles are fine, i love them too!! but i found that the fat free one taste great, and the fat free sour cream and onion ones taste better then the regular ones bcuz they r not as salty. But its strang bcuz they r hard to find, i found that the best place for fat free pringle is wal-mart and sell them for only a $1 a tube most of the time!!! good luck if u have more ???s let me know! Oh and try a multi and fish oil. U can get both and not spend more the $30 or so, fish oil (omegas 3s) is by far the best all around supplement. Everyone from pregnant woman to 100 year old men take fish oil. I could spend 30 min. listing all the great benefits from fish oil... but trust, me take it!

I'd check out the sugar content of the V8 splash, too. That stuff tastes great, I really like it too, and it's awesome with all the vegetable and fruit servings too, but if I recall it's got a ton of sugar in it (high fructose corn syrup) which in your case might not be terrible as far as weight gain goes, but I think the corn syrup has other health implications that you are just as susceptible to as someone with a higher body fat percentage.
Just my 2¢, it's not like I'm some spring chicken; anyhow and I don't purport myself to be an expert! -------------------- |

im trying the mona vie drink...it has the acai berry which is well known for anti-oxidants...it contains 19 berries and fruits...it also helps for joint pains and gives a little boost of energy..a 2 oz shot in the morning and one at night is all you need to drink. its becoming one of the most popular healthy drinks around...oprah says the acai berry is the new number one superfood. but watching the junk and sodas...diet sodas are just as bad as regular...drink lots of water or vitamin water. 1 hour of exercise can help too.
