QUOTE(lagos @ Jan 2, 2008 - 4:46 PM) WannabeGT4, you should start a new thread with info on where to get different harness plugs from. Not to take business away from anyone, but to provide a place, other then the junk yard, to source harness plugs from. There have been a few times that i had to replaced a damaged plug, but never found a place where i can just buy them new. BTW. I just got off the phone with the local toyota dealer and the main part numbers I listed were all available. I think I might stop in tonight to see if he can't tell me exactly which terminals I would need to go with them. I think I might stop in tonight to see if he can't tell me exactly which terminals I would need to go with them. Yeah find out how much the terminals cost with a piece of wire crimped on them. They have them available. And you should definitely post up that PDF. I'll host it if you need a place. Trust me Lagos, I have to empty my PM box almost every day from all the PMs I get asking questions about swaps. Just because my post count isn't as high as some of the people on here doesn't mean I'm not constantly contributing to this community. (Just a couple minutes ago: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=54764&hl=) Some people have the idea that I'm just trying to make money off 6GC and they neglect to recall that I was an enthusiast here long before I was a professional. By the way, if you ever have any broken plugs and need a good one, just call me up, I have hundreds of them here in good shape. -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Jan 2, 2008 - 5:54 PM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

Still tweak vs the world I see
tweak you do excellent work, i have always respected you when these debates come up, im sorry that it seems like Lagos persuaded me not to get the swap done by you, but it was more of a recommendation because of the uniqueness of the swap and the problems that usually arise post swap. wannabe, you are a very valued member of this community but i think tweak is pretty reasonable on his prices. |

I would go even farther than this. Tweak and I have disagreed on a number of things over the years, but his prices are comparatively inexpensive to most other shops - by a wide margin. You can't really compare the a shop's cost vs. doing it yourself because there is equity in your own sweat. I am reminded of the time when I decided to install my kitchen/ family room wood floor. The materials cost me about $1000 and the bids I got were all over $4000. Did I save $3000? Sure, if you look at it that way. But I also busted my tail for a few days and made some minor errors in the process that a professional would not have made. To some, the $3000 would have been a drop in the bucket and well worth the expenditure. To me, it was not at the time. The point is that you can only judge whether the price tag is fair by comparing it to competitors - not doing it yourself. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

The point is that you can only judge whether the price tag is fair by comparing it to competitors - not doing it yourself. Very true.... but im sure you love that floor a lot more because you did it yourself. The problem with paying someone for a swap or a turbo kit, is that its not like paying a shop to mount your tires for you (or a kitchen floor). People seem to think that they can drop it off, come back in a week, pay the bill, and they will never have to worry about it again. It just doesn't work that way. There are going to be times where your car doesn't boost right, or something breaks. If your did your own work, your going to know your way around the engine and will be able to quickly diagnose and repair these minor issues. But if you paid someone for your swap, then your going to just have a lot of bills and headaches when you have to pay someone to fix a very minor issue for you. Btw Jay, I dont mean that about you... I think your actually one of the few guys that took the time to learn and understand whats under the hood of his car. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I accidentally laughed at the guy when he told me the price. Anyway, this is the post I made with the PDFs for the connectors. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=54817 -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

Woooow.
I think Doc Tweak is a real asset to this community (as well as others) and the prices of his products are his determination of parts, labor and DEMAND; which I have not seen mentioned. There's a reason that PS3s and Wiis were double or triple the MSRP because of demand alone. If you think the price is unsuitable, you don't need to buy the product; and creating an open-source in an alternative is acceptable, but this sort of thing is ridiculous. BTW: Doc I recommend you all the time. -------------------- |

Yes, but even if you could locate the correct pins, HOW would you connect them to the wire? Ours are connected using the OEM TYCO crimp tool which is several hundred dollars EACH (yes, you need a different one for the larger pins vs the smaller pins), so we know that's out of the question since that would automatically put the cost too high, and I KNOW you aren't going to try to ghetto-crimp those pins using some "general" crimping tool. BTW: Doc I recommend you all the time. Thanks Supersprynt Actually I will readily admit that the demand is very low which is why these are prices so reasonably. I already serve a very narrow market in the automotive community and these jumper harnesses only appeal to an even more minute number of people. Actually, the only real interest that has been expressed in these has come from other shops that do a lot of Celica/MR2 stuff, because it's much more cost effective for them to just buy a jumper harness rather than "dick around" with rewiring a harness on their own or spending a couple hours on the internet looking for a good price on a new used ECU. -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Jan 3, 2008 - 9:04 AM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

An easy way to get rid of the AFM and add a few HP the safe way via a Toyota stock tune. Would there be any pluses anyone else can think of? T-VIS delete? BTW Doc - I ave a '93 JDM GT4 engine in my '95 and would want a 3rd gen jumper and your clocked turbo wastegate mounting bracket. woa, great work! if you consider selling 93ecu to 91 for less than 100$, i`d grab one probably as i have apexi powerfc for 93 and cannot use on my 1990 car.. but dont have 200 right now. the price is right when someone needs such item, but then again an ecu costs less than a harness is it hard to make one? i would probably go to scrap yards and cut some harnesses and ports and make my own, since i wouldnt be able to order the connectors internationally -------------------- 1994 MR2 SW20, 1990 Celica ST185, both 3SGTE
