RANT: Obsession and World of Warcraft

I am so completely and utterly tired of hearing you, my husband, talk to those other World Of Warcraft losers. The only time we talk is in between bites at dinner. Then you are back in there playing your game. Great. I always knew you were geeky. I liked that about you, I found it endearing. But this is just too much. I thought you would tire of the game after a while; after all you play it for 8 to 10 hours a day on weekdays and even longer on the weekends (yes I’ve been keeping track). Yeah sure, around 10:00 in the evening we get together and watch a movie, 5 out of 7 times you are snoring within the first 15 minutes, I wake you up, you proclaim, “I wasn’t sleeping!” You manage to force your eyes open for maybe 2 minutes, then your head drops, drool starts pouring out of your mouth onto your shirt, you loudly snore until I can’t take it anymore, wake you up, oh but again you weren’t sleeping! Rinse and Repeat. Finally I just turn the movie off- 1) I don’t like to watch movies by myself, 2) Its impossible to even hear the movie over your long, loud, snores that would put any hibernating bear to shame. So what do you do now? Of course, back to the computer! Where you are now wide-awake and actively playing for the next 2 to 2 ½ hours. I understand the need for a hobby; I’m glad that you have something you like. Since you are happy and fulfilled sitting in your office for hours and hours at a time I find myself asking what I need, what I want, what I desire. I need, want, and desire a man. Male companionship, attention, and affection. Sorry, the “wanna fool around” you ask 3 minutes after disconnecting from your game isn’t exactly getting my juices flowing, especially since I know from the numerous previous experiences that 2 minutes after you get your rocks off (notice I say YOU, not WE) you are back in there, on that game, discussing your next “mission” on that damn microphone with your WOW friends. I’m sure the majority of them don’t have wives to worry about, relationships to keep, fears of being served divorce papers. But you do. I consider myself to be a very open minded and understanding person. I encourage you to go out with your friends, see movies, have a few drinks, go to a game and enjoy the male camaraderie. But no, you just want to sit in there and play your game. I’m tired of it. I’m tired of you. We’ve only been married 6 years and I’m ready to call it quits. I’m young, I want to experience life and all that there is, I want to go for walks in the park and feed the ducks, I want to meet some couples we can go out to dinner with, I want to live my life. I don’t think I can do that with you anymore. Everyday you make the decision to play your game (even on my Birthday), and I don’t say anything, I don’t nag, I don’t belittle. It’s your life. It’s your day. You live it the way that is best for you. Since you are choosing this outlet over me, I will be making my own choices, choices that are selfish and don’t consider you whatsoever.

Oh you can expect those divorce papers any day now. I’m sure you and World Of Warcraft will have a wonderful life together. Best of luck to the happy couple.

Played it back in highschool. VERY addicting game. Storylines are awesome. But grew out of it. Ever since I started going out more often and actually have a life in college life, it's more inspirational than trying to level up while watching out for 'mobs' and esp a 'gank' becuz you know a gay punk 'rogue' from the opposite alliance will shank you from behind while being "aggro'ed" thus leaving you to uber ownage screwing up your wins and loss record. I'd choose to have a life.

Btw, the man that this woman is describing has some serious gaming issues. Did you guys know that game addiction is considered a drug? Yes. It gets so bad that some people have to seek interventions just to help them get rid of the addiction. It's madness I tell you!

I honestly don't get how someone could be THAT addicted to WOW, I mean I play once in a while cause it is a fun game, but after a while some of the quests just get tedious. I'm more of a console player anyway.

I play the game. It just takes moderation, something this guy doesn't have and apparently some people don't understand. I know people who play over 10 hours a day and people who play a few times a week (me). Some people get too attached and that's dangerous, but don't make it sound like EVERYONE that plays World of Warcraft is doomed to this kind of life.

laugh.gif I got the GF this game so she would relax about me working on the car damn near 24-7. I got the blow off last night but I just thought it was funny.
I also like to fcuk with her by saying "Roger" and "Red team go! Red team go!" and stupid $hit like that to her. I know it sounds stupid but I like to get her angry biggrin.gif
Now the required work on the car is slacking off to the point I can relax at a reasonable time [10ish] and I find myself watching movies by myself. Unlike the woman above tho - I have no problem with that. Now I can finally watch all those special features on the DVDs I buy [she hates that $hit].
I think too many people look at their significant others as a second TV or something to entertain them with. Screw that - I only get one life and I gotta spend it being your fcuking clown?
I don't think so.

Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.
