SS, don't purchase an "upconverting" dvd player. Biggest scam ever. Why? Because your tv already upconverts the video signal. What model samsung were ya looking at?

I think I've decided against it. I've also decided on a different Tv...sorta. If I had a bigger car today I would have brought home a 40'' 1080p Plasma and an blu-ray player, but didn't. frown.gif

I really wish all movies were available on both formats because I'd just go buy one but Transformers is HD DVD only - and stuff.

So I took the dive today. Ordered a 42'' 1080p Panasonic plasma. Now I'm just waiting to exercise some hook up options on a PS3 and then going to get my HD box and I will a happy camper.

Ooh the 1080progressive scan, I hear those and just F-ing dandy! Like theirs a party in your eyeballs and everyone's invited! laugh.gif

Personally i dont got the 1080P, I just got the regular, Plus it's a big screen Short Tube, But it's 65 inches of GLORY!! When i first hooked up the x-box for a bit of Spider man 2, WHOLEY SHIZNIT!! i had to sit 3 inches from the screen, with my suround sound, I swear that I was the one shooting that web biggrin.gif

Sucks that its so Big (depth-wise) But it's worth it. Are you going to mount it on the wall; Or on the ceiling like the commercial? laugh.gif

Everything will be hooked up via HDMI, that is except for sound. I'm going to try to do that optical but I have a feeling it's not going to work out. I have an old receiver.

It's going on a stand. Plasma's are heavy and I'm not liking the idea of dry wall with 75lbs hanging off of it.

Dude; If it's an issue of your cable box... Call the company and request a new box. Most cable companys (Comcast, mine included) charge you a few bucks (3-5 usualy) for service to a high def reciever. For a buck or two more you can upgrade you reciever to something with the 'optical in.'

IMO It is WELL worth a buck or two.

My best hommy has optical 9.3 surround. lol. Yes he has 2 - 12's in a banpass box on a 1200W car amp wired to a AC to DC converter lol. It's Wired into his surround sound set. It's Freakin Sweet...

Myself; I've got optical out on everything, But optical in on nothing kindasad.gif WTF!?

I understand about the drywall holding your TV; But the screws go into studs, And the center frame is supposed to be mounted onto a Wall support beam. (supposed) my bro-in-law has a 45inch mounted on his wall (not into the support beam) and it's been holding for over a year now.

But drywall is not exacaly sturdy stuff, I wouldnt wanna set my investment on the side of a cliff and hope the wind dont blow LOL!!

I've seen walmart, and a few others (ikea, Gallary Furniture, Flea markets, Ect.) With rather nice (And pretty cheap) setups for the Flat Plasma's. I especialy like the glass one's because IMO they look so freakin cool. Come's with the mounts already ready already, Plus a few shelfs for VCR's (If you still own VHS's) or DVD players, playstations, Ect. At Wal*Mart for as low as 35+ dollars. woot.gif

Now ya just can't beat that deal even if it banged your sister and you had a tire iron laugh.gif

No, I'm talking audio receiver - with book shelf and surround sound speakers. It doesn't have the ability to decode HD sound.

For $35 you'll get a piece of garbage. It's more expensive for something that will hold a plasma.

OH!!

You have an Old AUDIO RECEIVER; your head to your surround system.... Okay... rolleyes.gif I'm retarted; excuse me~

How do you 'have a feeling' about if it'll work or not? Does it have the optical in port?

I was thinkin you were refering to your cable box because i see alot of people running coaxial or old' a/v rca wires and wondering why their picture/audio looks and sounds the same even though spend mad money on these highdef things.

And i just clicked back and double checked... I did say $35... When i MENT $350 rolleyes.gif

Hahahaha- $35 dollars won't even buy you a table to put a 12inch 'Sponge-Bob' tv on. lol laugh.gif I'm talking about Glass shelfs with built in plasma brackets. lol. Me and the Mrs. was wanting a real stand for our tv (instead of the coffee table with a nice table cloth over it) and we've been seeing alot of the plasma "Stations" as i've been calling em.

What games are you going to looking for on PS3?

I know where and how it would be mounted. I don't want it mounted on the wall. It'll ruin the whole picture thing I got going on.

As for the PS3 games - Assassins Creed is on the list, probably GTA4 when it comes out, probably the new Metal Gear Solid, but not until after I read reviews. The last one I played was so confusing and ridiculous of a story line I totally couldn't get into playing. But the original MGS for PS was amazing. Other than that, I don't know yet.

My list includes moving expenses for going back to Chattanooga, new front rotors/pads/maybe calipers(lookin into the 7th gen), a new shifter knob, new winshield wiper blades, shift boot & armrest cover, possibly some rims, a few cans of "accent" paint, and supplies for an oil change and radiator flush.

Plasmas are great, but I can't see paying that much for a tv that is only supposed to last about 10yrs and the picture quality doesn't get great until you are at that "sweet spot" distance cause the pixels are so big, then you gotta worry about it not getting too hot and not against anything and with PLENTY of ventalation always..... but hey, it's one hell of a great thing once you get those things all worked out.

Current Plasmas and LCDs will be good up to about 60,000 hours, which if your running it 8 hours a day, will last you 20 years. The technology will be updated a lot faster than that, and I go through technology rather quickly. I'm very not worried about that.

Get the TV size that's suitable for your average viewing distance.

Assassins creed does look to be good... GT4 of course (who isnt waiting for that one?)

But i'm waiting for a title called Prototype... Look it up, it's GTA meets Spiderman meets army-attacking-Mutant-alien-invasion-dead-body-absorbing-psychopathic fun. biggrin.gif You can hijack a helicopter midair while it's flying and shooting at ya 15 stories in the air... lol!

Oh Laff09, the tv goes on a bracket. The bracket goes to the wall. But only the center goes onto the support studs (that hold up the house) and the sides are mounted into the drywall. you got 2screws holding well, and 4-8 (give or take a few based on your setup) that are sitting in drywall. Stylish, but not good logic...

Taking that for truth is like agreeing with all manufacturers mpg ratings, that's not the realistic majority lifetime, especially with plasmas. I used to work for ViewSonic. Yeah, I don't plan on keeping tv's that long anyways.

True on the sizes.
