basically i own a fifth gen gt coupe and want a sixth gen or maybe a seventh gen (prefferably a sixth) and just want some opinions on what your opinions of the car are. i live in a small mountain town and have been looking like crazy for a sixth gen on autotrader around the state (colorado). what do you think the improved differences are on the car besides the body.
im not looking to race it or put a large muffler on, i know the 5s isn't fast, i just want a clean car i can throw some wheels on, tint the windows, lower it, and a decent sound system if by chance someone has one for sale nearby pm me. heres my current car by the way..... and before the window tint and bumper lights |

The 6th gen is lighter..better lighting.better transmission synchros...they are pretty much the same car really. I had 5th gen for 4 years prior to me 6th.
EDIT : I'm just going to say, in my case, the change of car was too much the same, and I got bored of the 6th gen very fast. This post has been edited by Rayme: Feb 21, 2008 - 11:15 AM -------------------- -Rémy 02 SiR, 08 250R |

Well... if you like to search for parts and you really know your stuff a 6th gen would be a good idea. Its hard to find stuff for and harder to tune. costs quite a bit of $$ as well. but it would pay off in the end. ive seen a video of a 600hp celica smoke a STI and a 1080hp Supra. just do some research around the site...im sure youll figure somehthin out

5th gens look good but a 6 gen looks better
The 6 has a better suspension and the hp/torque #s are a bit higher than a 5th gen. Most people love the way the car feels and handles but are dissapointed in the lack of aftermarket performance support. 6 gens are more rare than 5th gens, at least around me, and I like the fact that some people still to this day ask me if it's a supra. -------------------- |

It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. |

the only things i miss from my 5th gen are the 10 speaker system (that thing sounded better than my current 8 speaker system), the motorized lumbar support, better cup holder location, and the way the steering wheel tilts up automatically when you pull out the key.
otherwise the 6th gen is better in every way. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

They are very much similar to each other besides the body. I have owned a 91, 97 and 00 Celica.
As previously said they are lighter, more appealing to the eye, ageless bodylines, better/updated 5S/7A, improved trans, more user friendly, and imo roomier and better handling. I had a 91 GT Coupe and my 97 ST Hatch felt just as quick [91 Auto > 97 5SP] and more manueverable. |

if your looking for cheap running car that still has the looks (which is what you seem to be into) then go for the ST. and style it the way you want. plenty of aftermarket parts etc to choose from

cool thanks for alll the advice guys. i definetly dont want an st just in case someday i want to do the swap. i definetely love the lines of the sixth gen about the same as the fifth....dont feel the same as the seventh lol.
i am still in high school but in about three weeks i should have about 5000 saved up for a new car and am lookin like crazy on craigslist/autotrader around colorado. the only problem is fifth and sixth gens are so rare here in the mountains all you mostly see are 4runners. |
