 interior trim problem |

My passenger door panel trim is damaged a bit.
this is not my car but ive found this picture and figured out that im not the only one with this problem  I dont know really what caused this since i bought my car like that...probly last owner's gf had a weighty elbow  my question is...is that trim easy to replace? regards |

Oh, you should see my panels, they're more messed than that lol...I thinkit might be from when rain gets on the material and shrinks it..? that's my guess cause the door has to be open when you get in the car (raining or not), so it's bound to get wet.

i saw a couple of panesl for sale on ebay, very cheap

The passenger door panel in my '97 celica had the same problem too... Weighty elbow is probably what caused it because the wood frame/backing collapsed. What I did was I patched up the wood with some glue & tape. Then I trimmed the leather and used some sandable leather filler to patch it up. It's not perfect but looks a lot better now. It holds up pretty well too.
  The elbow damage is gone.. but in this pic, you could see the groove where I had trouble sanding. ..I got annoyed so I said fcuk this piece of sh**!!!! I whipped out some sem dye and sprayed it.  |

Yeah my driver panel has indentation towards the window where my elbow rests when I drive, I mainly notice it when I'm cleaning, kind of annoying though.

ive got that starting to happen, its because you put all your weight on that panel, its only chipbord it breaks the chipbord and the more you continue to do that the more it will get worse

my interior is great apart from this on both doors RAH, is there anything that can be done?

The door panels are REALLY fragile. The material under the leather, is so thin and crispy that I dont even understand why Toyota is using it. You can almost put your finger right through it, with some power.
I am planning to do some fiberglassing on the backside of mine, which will strengthen it alot. |

Odd, I noticed a similar issue in the fifth-gen, which Toyota actually corrected in the later two years by gluing a solid panel to the bottom of the arm rest.
