yeah, basically i'm just putting in a head unit. my problem is that i'm not sure about the wiring. i never found a harness the goes to the amp harness to the stereo. i tried a couple metra harnesses but none fit. my mechanic gave me schematics saying that i should bypass my amps. i'm just not sure what is the best way to install, or exactly how to do it. if i bypass the amps i don't think that i can use all of my speakers.

dude, you need this... but to let you know all toyota have the harness 2 plugs. if you follow the amp. the amp has a harness that coneects. read below from another post...

ok so i want to skip the amp. is there another harness i can buy or do i just hotwire them? might as well ask before trying anything else

IPB Image

edit Found my pic: The little thing im touching, is part of the main harness. The plugs that it ends with, conects with the harness that exits the amps. These plugs are standard in all toyotas from specific years. So all you need is to look up in ebay this.(below)

Instead of hotwire, buy a harness that is plug, and play. It will save you headaches..

you need this:

Metra 70-8112 Premium Amplifier Integration Harness

which attaches on to:

in order to keep using your factory amplifier system. Cheapest place to buy it is at AudioOutfitter.com. That's where I got mine from and took about 5 days for international delivery.

you can do that ^^^^ but your aftermarket stereo wires cannot be used. you will need to use the rca outputs to use the stock amp. otherwise you can fry the amp. As the amp uses line level input. the rca ouptuts in your stereo are line level. the regular wires are already amplified.

but if you really want to bypass the amp in the pic above if you look at the amp has an exit harness that has two female plugs. you need to find the male plugs.

trust me.. take the center console out. There is no other way to access the amp

IPB Image

then take the amp out and disconect, an only then you will find the long harness i was pointing to. this harness is the same on all toyotas. it has 6 pins on one side and 10 on the other...

looks like this....

http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Toyota3.htm

those are the two plugs you need to look for. nevermind the radio. Just look for the plugs.

all you do is buy this harness.... and sell the amp

oh no dude no!!

Dont run your headunit thru the stock amp, no no no!! It's only there to push the factory head unit strong enough to run the speakers. Any old aftermarket headunit will put out the same power, and that setup wont allow you to expand.

Unplug the amp, and the local wal*mart's wiring harness will attach to the 'speaker->out' plug. it's $5.00 i believe...

dont go wiring your head-unit thru the factory amp though, Please!!

Well, it's ur car, but IMO it's a horrible idea...

In case anyone else does a search on wiring an aftermarket radio and finding you have the factory amp that appears to be causing a wire harness conflict--I'll throw in my .02 cents.

Don't bother removing the center console. The two radio harness connectors in question (that Toyota uses on everything) are hanging off a bracket on the underside of the amp. Just pull down and the two connectors will release from the metal bracket. It's one of those typical Toyota snap-in plastic retainers used on wire harnesses. Anyway, the two plugs are side-by side and can be pulled forward far enough for you to unplug the two radio harness plugs. Unplug them, and then you will be able to pull the two mail ends up along the driver side and close enough to reach your radio.

This way, you are bypassing the OEM amp and using the standard two Toyota radio plugs. But, you can still leave the amp and it's connectors in place and reuse it if you ever sell your car and want to put the factory stereo back in.
