Hi, I am new to the site and I have had my 94 gt since january. I enjoy the site a lot. I have searched the forums about this but stilll have a few questions. I have a ebay cai (mostly for the sound as I dont know if it helps performance much), but I want to try something else to improve the cars performance. My celica has 112k miles on it and I cant afford to turbo. I have read about different members exhaust setups and I think I want a 2.25 with resonator and magnaflow muffler. I am graduating at the end of may and will have some cash to spend. Can anyone tell me about the performance to be gained from this exhaust set up or if there is something else i can do to the car that will be a better use of money(possibly ebay headers?). The car is my daily driver so it has to pass emissions. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Better low end torque and better top end from then the factory 2" exhaust piping. Reason being is that your allowing the engine to "breath" more easily by reducing back-pressure and having a better flowing exhaust flow due to the the increased pipe diameter. I've been from 2.5" and recently downgraded to 2.25" on my pipe diameter and I noticed that I have more torque on my bottom to mid rpms and haven't sacrificed any high end power since the 2.5" piping. So yeah, I recommend 2.25" to everyone with a 2.0 to 1.6L engine and anything higher than a 2.0 go with 2.5" piping.

Here's my 2.25 exhaust setup. This is an under-axle catback consisting of a magnaflow high flow cat. converter, 20" 2.25" inlet/outlet magnaflow resonator, and a 2.5" megan racing n1 muffer. This was put together by a local exhaust shop.
And a Video Clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kHzpSc3D1Y Here is what I used: Magnaflow Cat. Converter Magnaflow resonator/muffler Megan Racing N1 muffler BTW, the overall tone of your exhaust is dependant on the type of rear muffler your using. -------------------- |

Honestly i'm not sure because there is no dyno here on Maui. But all I can see that torque and high end power improved from what I can notice.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think now I should go with a 2.5 setup not 2.25. I also think it should be under the rear axel. Does anyone have advice about where to start the 2.5 pipes? after the flex pipe maybe? Also what differences would there be without a resonator.

3rd pix is a rear muffler. What this part of the exhaust does is it sets the overall tone of the exhaust system. What a resonator does is simply muffle the exhaust tone so it's quieter.

Parts and installation on the car cost roughly $340. Shipping for the parts to me was around $60 because of the weight of the parts and the distance from the mainland U.S. to Hawaii.

I honestly would say yes. That is actually the muffler I originally wanted but then decided to stick with N1 style mufflers instead.
