Hey guys...been a while since I've been on the forums, and unfortunately, I've decided that me and the Celica need to part ways. I hadn't bluebooked it in a while, but the private party value plummeted, and I'm thinking it might be more worthwhile to part it out rather than sell it whole.

The specifics:
1994 GT 5 speed
201K, with a thorough inspection from a mechanic at 196K (something about a misdiagnosed oil pump leak that ended in the replacement of my headgasket)

I bought the car with 188K on it, the previous owner(s) put a whole bunch of goofy blingy mods into it, as well as lowering springs and a CAI. I installed a new set of KYB struts at about 192K, and just replaced the starter motor and battery. The inspection was because one shop thought the headgasket was blown, which I bought all the parts I'd need to do it myself, ended up having too many washers on a couple headbolts and cracking the crankshaft because of it..then took it to a different shop to have them mess with it, and the mechanic inspected all the internals that were taken apart.

edmunds.com has the TMV at $1079, and trade in is around $600. I'm not super excited to get a few extra hundred bucks trying to sell it myself, nor am I enthused about either market value. Can I get more than 1100 parting this out? How much? Feel free to ask for parts, just realize A) I might not part it out and B) it might be up to a month before I actually start parting out.

I say part it out. Especially since you're on here. And we the 6gc community are always looking for parts for our cars. I just think it would be a lot of work for you that's all. but, if you're up for it then part it out. smile.gif

in my opinion, i think you'd at least get $350 for the jdm lows, $500 for the rest of the mods and maybe at least $400 on stock parts (depending on the amount of interest).

i may need a lot of parts but will have to get back to you on that later this week. my uncle might be picking up a wrecked 6th gen and needs the whole front end, spoiler and possibly most of your mods.. smile.gif

what size rims are those? i'm sure someone will take them off your hands as well. definitely part it out if that's all you'll get for the whole car. better yet it sounds like it would be a good candidate for a swap.

you'd get about 400+ for the projectors. 100+ for the highs. 200+ for the rear disc brake conversion. the hood, fenders, bumpers are worth a few shiny pennies. a couple hundred for the rims. and a couple hundred more for all the other stock, interior, misc stuff.

Keep in mind everyone here will want you to part out for their own reasons like wanting parts, thus your poll and most posts in this thread will be "part it out" comments. Do what's calculated best money maker - which could very well be parting out in the end. Goodluck.

^That's a true statement, although I want to add that I voted "Part it Out" because it's common knowledge that the parts of a car are worth more than the whole. If that weren't the case, there wouldn't be stolen cars and/or chop shops.

Even though this "common knowledge" is mostly true, you cannot account for his time, which could be money within itself (time=money). He just needs to weigh all options and see what its worth to him. I'd never part out because of the time drain it would be.

That's a valid point. One that I would think would be factored into the price of the parts, should the car be parted out. (I just wanted to add my .02 as a matter of my objective opinion, and not as a vulture swooping in on the parts)

Thanks to everyone who responded.

In retrospect, I think I jumped the gun a little bit. Edmunds seems to be a little stricter with their resale values than the other appraisal sites, so my car could (should/would) fetch more than the few big ticket items I'd probably have success in selling.

Look for my for sale thread.

Very interested in the car as a whole. Please let me know when your selling.
