i have a 1.8 st and when ever i go to start my car it dies so i try again but i give it gas and i sit there with my foot on the gas lightly until my car runs normal some one told me it could be my fuel filter and some one else told me it could be the timing . but when im drivging around for about an hour it always seems to start right up and idle perfectly i have no idea whats wrong with it its been happening for 5 months and i just changed my sparkplugs spark plug wire alternator with belt distributer cap last weekend someone please help me out thanks

Look into whatever the 7A uses for a cold start system - Bet that's what it is. I know the 3S uses a cold start injector and it'll do that if it's out.
It's not gonna be your fuel filter if your running smooth otherwise but you should change it anyway if it hasn't been done recently. With all the other work you've done do that, get a fuel system treatment done and you ought to be runnin smooth as silk. i had a problem just like that... does it keep cranking and wont turn over? or tick rite after???? alot and u gotta keep turing the key on and off and trying like 50 times be4 it starts???? if so then its prob ur starter.. most likely nothing wrong with it prob the wire is lose.... was driving me nuts... check it out.. lemmekno if it worked ...

Sounds like he's saying it will ignite and then immediately die to me. Wouldn't be the starter then.

idle air control motor is going out, also called the idle speed control motor. about $160 from toyota, its on the bottom of the throttle body held by 4 screws. dont forget to get the new gasket.
