Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to this car stuff... I've had my celica for about 7 months now....I love it...but I've always wanted to ask about a few things and I hope you guys can help as I'm sure theres a few experts around When I'm driving, I take off in first gear but when I lift my foot back off the accelerator my car seems to drop power very very quickly, like a shuddering of jerking effect for a few seconds until it settles... This will happen if say for example I'm driving through my street, I'm going at a normal speed, and I simple lift my foot from the accelerator it jerks....its quite annoying sometimes when I'm driving through town or something. I know I probably haven't described this very good (please excuse me I'm half sleeping - late night last night haha) but I've always wanted to ask someone if they have the same problem...is it normal or am I doing something wrong, and no sarky comments please about my driving haha....I've drove probably over 100 different kinds of cars in my job and my car seems to be the only that does it... haha Thanks for any help in advance guys! Much appreciated! ~Keith |

Anyway, I thought if you drive a stick, and you just all of a sudden let go of the gas in 1st or 2nd, the car's gonna jerk back and forth. -------------------- |

Mine does it somewhat if I'm going in a low gear (like 2nd) at higher RPMs (3500+ for example). It won't do it below 3k unless I happen to be in 1st, which is rare

Mine does that as well, and then again when I get back on the gas. I have front and rear motor mount inserts.

Yeah, glad someone else has it so I'm not alone, I was talking to my cousin, he has a gen5 celica and his is the same....he said it might just be the way they are geared? I don't know, just wondering but thanks man! Hopefully its nothing wrong....if I learn anymore I'll keep you posted! |

Mine does it somewhat if I'm going in a low gear (like 2nd) at higher RPMs (3500+ for example). It won't do it below 3k unless I happen to be in 1st, which is rare I happens when I'm moving in traffic....you know like at traffic lights and I'm prob only moving 10yards at a time...its never done it in any other cars I drive and the rpm isn't too low or anything. Think what my cousin says might be true? Its just the way they are setup? I have drove a 2004 VW Golf R32, 3.2 V6 petrol, manual gearbox...it was a Mk4 one. It done the same actually I remember! But the new R32 I drove in work also didn't do it so I asked one of the mechanics he said that they had "fixed" it in the new version....said it was just the way its setup too...I dont know! Love to know exactly what it is though |

Mine does that too. But in any car ive drove thats a 5 speed, if you take your foot off the gas suddenlly your going to get a jerk. But if your saying it feels worse then how that feels, then just off the top of my head, check your Shocks and Springs, they may not be out but they may be old and not taking as much of the shock as they should. Also, check your mounts, you can do this my checking to see if you engine shakes when its idle. it really shouldnt move at all and if it is that could also be your problem.

Mother's car (Nissan Bluebird, SR20DE 5spd, so similar engine to the 3sge in my celica) does do it too, but to a noticably lesser degree. And I noticed nothing in other cars I've driven, but those all had the same cubic capacity as my knee. This post has been edited by MercuryFree: May 25, 2008 - 6:52 AM -------------------- |

I can let off the gas slowly, and its fine until the throttle closes all the way.
Maybe something wrong with my throttle cable? Ive lubed up everything i could (and used carb cleaner,) but it still seems like the first little bit of travel, trying to get the throttle plate open is the problem. It feels like it sticks then flicks open a little, maybe causing the jerk? My throttle also sticks on rare occasion while driving, revs at around 2-2.5k until i tap the gas and it unsticks. -------------------- |
