Alright, well heres the story; Since the end of novemeber, I have lost about 65 pounds. I went from 225, to 161 as of this morning. Yes i do eat in case someone asks that question. I have lost weight before but never to this extant. Now i would really like to start working on toning my body. Mostly my abs/chest muscles. I know doing sit ups and push ups is probably the best.
It needs to be something that i can do at home, i don't have time to get to a gym. Although i do have a weight lifting set with a bench and stuff, its not set up right now. But if just continue to do, sits up and push ups. How many should i do, how much should i increase it, etc? Right now, i'm doing about a 100 sit ups and a day and 20 push ups. I'm 18, and in decent shape. Don't know if that helps or not. But thanks for any advice guys. -------------------- "Drive Well...

to be honest, 100 situps and 20 pushups is not enough. First of all you need to do different types of crunches. Leg raises, Bicycle kicks, side to side, etc. I usually do sets of 50 and do 4-5 routines. 20 pushups should be the amount you do for each set, I do these inbetween my crunch sets. I do my workouts every other day or every 3 days. It's better to let your body rest then to do it everyday but some will argue. I would also get a pull-up bar because those work your entire upper body, including abs. Gl and it's good to see the commitments there you just gotta change your workout.

P90X Ab Ripper X routine
This is a 20 minute ab workout routine but its effing hardcore, trust me, you'll feel it after watching this. It's what I use, kinda stopped but I should get back onto this. |

If you can setup that bench, here is what you can do: For Chest: Bench Presses -6-8 x 6-8 reps Incline Presses-6 x 6-8 reps Push up do 50 per session. For Abs: Side to side twists 3 sets 50 reps Lying leg raises 3 sets 25-30 reps Hanging knee raises 3 sets 25-50 reps -------------------- 98% completion --- aaRon |

hahaha abs are one of the hardest muscles to work...
they have their own rules... first off it doesnt matter how many sit ups you do, its how u do them... for one, you need to learn to isolate muscles... then isolate upper mid and lower, lower are harder to define.... after a coupple weeks of working lower thanmid than upper 15 min each, 5 min at a time with a 1 min break in between... it will become easy, thats then u move into isolating the different sides of each division.... if u realy work them you can get a 6 pack pretty well defined by a month... but also keep in mind that form is a key factor, keep your chin pointed to the ceiling at all times... get a big excercise ball and use it for pushups, try balancing on it with ur feet on different areas on the ball then work torotating the ball from right to left while doing pushups... great core workout... dont quit when u feel the burn, thats when u know that your working the muscle... the only time ur muscle is really getting a workout is when it burns, otherwise its just consitered daily activity... burnem and keep workin! nows the hard part... every morning and night.... skip one time and uy minuswell not have worked out the time before... abs are something u have to keep up and keep up often or theyll dissapear very fast..... when done working out eat a big bowl of fruitloops or cheerios with bananas or strawberries..... dont eat big meals, eat several small meals a day... fiber is also a big part of muscle deffinition... yes it makes you poop alot, but it burns easily and fills in the "rips" in your muscle fibers... hope this helped.... ohh and remember to have fun lol This post has been edited by monkey: Jun 8, 2008 - 10:27 PM |

www.shapefit.com lots of routines, articles about workouts, new routines, supplements, and all thigs fitness. my suggestion is to overload your body regularly....i have been the same height for the past 8 years and gained went from 130 to 175 last summer and back down to 160 a few months ago. most of what i do is overload. i go to the gym sometimes but due to gas prices i usually stay home and work always doing chest. biceps and sometimes abs (yeah i know i am lacking BUT i am on my feet moving all day at work) ANYWAY try doing 5 sets pf 10 on everything except abs which you need to do something like 4x25 on one work out. and try and do enough weight to where when you get to the last set you can go to failure. another part of overloading is to NEVER STOP! most programs say to rest between sets, but that lets you muscles cool off and the blood and oxygen move away from the muscles....just do a little bit of research about it, pyramids,super setsand 300 sets (basically you do a full body workout OR target a couple specefic groups and do 300 total reps in as little time as possible doing 15 rep sets)...do the workouts like you mean it, then look in the mirror while you are still out of breath..you'll see results

Anyone got any suggestions for ab workouts that dont place much strain on the lower back? i have two buldged discs in my back that kinda hold me back on doing a ton of ab exercises (everything else is thru the roof tho ::FLEX:

chest = fly's , chest presses, rows

no.. well i mean yes i guess. I used the weight watchers program. (second time, first time i lost 40 pounds but gain like half back) I will swear by it until the day i die. I exercised, and counted points. I was losing anywhere from 2 to 4 pounds a week, but i was losing it healthly. I wasn't staving myself or anything.
