![]() So I took my car into the dealership to have it serviced (free). The gas gauge is about 1/8 left. They had my car for ~2 hours and low and behold when I get it back, it's down to almost nothing! WTF!?! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I check the odometer and see that they've driven it about 3 miles! How the hell do they waste all that gas on 3 miles!?! And where the hell did they drive my car to anyways (their facility isn't 3 miles long)? My guess is they saw a nice car and wanted to see what it can do... morons.... GRRRR....stuff like this really sets me off. EDIT* The service was for an oil change and air filter change. That's it. So I don't know why they would need to drive me car afterwards. I know what you mean. They figure it's not thier car, so why not have some fun in it. I dropped my car off to have the KYB's put on, and of course I know they need to test drive, but they had wasted about the same amount of gas (1/8th of a tank) with my car as well. Kind of peeved me too, but you can't really blame them too much b/c youldn't you want to have a little bit of fun if a nice car came into you're shop and you got to test drive it?

They normally test drive it before and after the repair. First to make sure the diagnosis is correct, and next to make sure they fixed the problem.

wow yall are like psychotic about yalls cars... lol they deal with alot nicer cars than 15 yr ols slow ass 4 bangers... lol no diss to the celi but seriously guys.... theyre working on your car... dont like them useing gas, than do it yourself... i see mechanics work on cars alot, they have the car running alot when its not needed, but granted they test drive it not for their pleasure, but as to "test" how the vehicle "drives"
thats just my opinion... i love my seli and back when she got worked on i let them do whateveer they needed to her to make her all better... its like a doctor... are u gunna wanna be awake durring open heart surgery to see if he does it right... no hes a doctor for a reason... cause he knows what to do.... i just leave it to the mechanics... they do a good job where i took it so i really couldnt complain.. now as far as "JOYRIDIN" they need to be castrated as weve had a couple car porters wreck clients cars doing this... and ofcourse they got fired.... and as far as insurance, they can get licenses revoked for letting coustomers walk inthere... osha i believe it is.... anyways thats just my .02 so scream at me if you want... lol This post has been edited by monkey: Jun 16, 2008 - 12:01 AM |

This was my Lexus that they "test" drove for an oil change, not my Celica. It's the first scheduled maintenance and they offer it for free. I always change my own oil and air filter (no brainers) but since this was a free service, I took used it. But even if they drove my Celica like that, I'd still be pissed. I don't know about you guys, but whenever someone gets into the driver's seat of my car, I get a weird feeling like I just want to grab em and tossing them the hell out
![]() So yeah, I treat my cars like my own children (if I had kids, that is) ![]() for something so easy, you should've done it yourself... -------------------- ![]() ![]() 2002 SC430 (WC) - 19" SSR Comp-H, Daizen swaybars, Sparco Demons, JDM Soarer conversion, carbon fiber spoiler, Injen intake, front strut bar, drilled/slotted Brembo rotors 1997 Celica ST (DD) - 17" ADR, ViS Zyclone CF hood, ViS CF hatch, K&N intake, Invader body kit |

That sucks man, I understand they need to test drive the car after something more major, but oil change shouldn't require any test driving. -------------------- |

Not to argue with you or anything Nam, but Lexus dealerships usually test drive every vehicle for any type of service. It's just part of the service. There is a certain procedure that the techs need to follow, and the test drive is just the last thing they have to do before turning in the RO. Dealers usually have certain test drive routes on which techs are supposed to travel on. Our test drive route for Longo Lexus is under 1 mile. There are certain circumstances in which the vehicle will need to be driven on the highway to diagnose certain complaints and see if the problem was remedied. However, I'm not sure how things are run over at that dealer, but 3 miles seems like a bit much for a simple service. In this situation, you should have complained to your service consultant. What usually happens is that they will refuel the vehicle for you. Maybe not to a full tank, but atleast to what you came in with.

Well I don't mind them taking it out for a test drive, but ever since gas prices have been increasing, I've been keeping a close eye over my MPG. So I "work" hard to bring that number up...on a full tank, I can get about 30MPG (kinda hard to do on a V8. But after this stint at the dealership, all the gas I saved got wiped out in 3 miles. It floored me. A whole week's worth of careful driving all gone in less than 2 hours (probably more like 2 minutes)!
Again, it's not the fact that they took it out, but the fact that they abused it while they had it. You know that "estimated range" on the trip counter? It was 35 when I brought it in. When I got it back, it was down to 8. Really? 8? From 35? And actual miles driven was 3? Yeah, I call that abuse. ok with that being said, i would have complained... if they cleaned the throttle body or what nots, they usually eff with the throttle for about 5 min blowing smoke everywhere.... but just oil.... now thats rediculous... even if they did a complete flush, the mpg computer in the car wouldnt have been affected by the throttle being toyed with by hand... you actually have to be driving... so they drove your car and drove it hard....
ya you have reason to be mad! lol and no im not a mechanic but i spend alot of time in service so i see what all they do.... |

i have to say if anyone took my car out for a drive on a oil change and used lots of fuel i would quite simply smack them in the mouth... thankfully i do my own work and mate owns a garage who i work with but if toyota did, which ive known some to do, id be seriously annoyed.
